Cannot read disc - since dashboard update WTH?

Anyone else had a problem reading discs since the dashboard update recently? Got a Kinect last week and we got through the usual update etc for my 120GB Elite console -but all of a sudden things have gone really pete tong.

I was advised by xbox.com to clear out the system cache to see if that stopped with the error of cannot read disc, so I did and now no only cant it read the discs it could read fine a week ago its also killed all the saved games, the Gears of War 3 disc won't read - or if it does it does so for a few minutes then fails - all the saved games corrupt.

Grrr.

Other games work fine - so its not the drive, its just some games all of a sudden cannot be read. Anyone else had this? Am I really going to have to ring MS support on this or is it a known issue? Quick google seems to indicate it might be, but looking for more info.

I've not had any issues myself, haven't heard any coming from friends of mines either.

I haven't noticed a problem as such, but It always seems to freeze when I'm playing need for Speed : It's unusual as it only started happening since I updated the dashboard too. Maybe there's a bug that will soon be fixed by Microsoft?

This is a problem with the new XGD3 discs and the security challenges they contain. Even if your drive can read older discs if it's worn out even a little bit it can be enough for your Xbox to fail these challenges.

There were a lot of people having this issue with MW3 a few weeks after release, myself included. I swapped it for another copy and luckily that's been working fine since.

By failing the AP2.5/2.6 challenge your console may have been flagged as potentially running a pirated copy. Microsoft are aware that this has shown up a lot of false positives though and so far have refrained from issuing bans. If you want to check for sure if you've been flagged you can download an app called XVal v2.0 which uses your serial number to check for any flags.

just to update, spoke to MS support for 45 minutes and they fixed everything. Quality of support was astonishing to be honest.

I had a corrupt game data file (not flagged as corrupt) which was causing the console to fail on disc read, this took out the wifi too - the guy talked me through it, despite me thinking he was flogging a deadhorse and the next thing I know is my faithful elite lives to fight another (noisy) day...
