    Game to help loosen weight

    Hi there!

I have had my PS3 for almost a year now but somehow i want to push the hardware a little bit. what i mean is i'm looking for a game to help loosen-up weight. one that really makes up a sweat.

Now, i don't know if a fitness game or a Move competition games or an action game would be ideal but what would you guys recommend to me?

I stand 6 feet and weighs 100 kilos so that makes me "clinicaly obese".

I also want my wife to come along play with me and she mentioned that she also want to loosen weight.

A standalone game for just me or a game for both of us?

    Please advice.

    Thank you.

Forget the PS3, instead find a local 18+ floor tower block and walk up/down the stairs twice in morning and then again in the evening. Excellent cardio exercise.

The 360 is better suited to this, due to Kinect.

Nice suggestion on finding a tower block.

As regards the second one well i thought the PS3 is better because of more hardware and more accuracy. but either way which game would you recommend for either platform?

Re: Game to help loosen weight

Honestly none of the video games alone will make you lose weight. What you can do is get some wrist and ankle weights and some dumb bells and use them in conjunction with the game and you will actually start to see results.

    Sigh.

The main problem with exercise games, after years of using them, is getting your actions to be properly understood by the machine.

If you don't feel any form of feedback on the screen, you get frustrated, and may as well just use a videotape.

So, for example, the original webcam-based system was Eyetoy Kinetic for the PS2 - which was impossible to play unless you were a black man/woman playing naked in a perfectly white room. My wife had to play the game wearing bright red gloves with a bedsheet pinned to the wall or it wouldn't see her hands.

Playstation Move tries to mitigate the problem by tracking a giant glowing ball on the end of the move controller. Ultimately though, it can't see your body very well, and you'll see how badly it does in any fitness game for PS3.

The 360 does a better (but NOT perfect) job because the Kinect can see you moving with its depth camera - i.e. it doesn't matter if you blend into the background behind you, as long as you're not paper-thin.

I'm not after a religious debate, especially since I own all the systems. I'm telling you, factually, that Kinect does better with fitness games than the PS3 is capable of. Any active Kinect title will do - some like Your Shape Fitness Evolved are designed for it, but anything that gets you moving & sweating will be helping get you fitter. There's also Sony Move Fitness - but this requires not only Move, but *two* Move controllers, one for each hand. And EA Sports Active uses its own sensor strapped to your body, because the PS3 can't be trusted to be any good for this without some kind of extra sensor

An alternative is a dance mat game, but Dance Dance Revolution New Moves, the PS3 one, is hard to find.

Re: Game to help loosen weight

If you don't want to exercise outside, what my mate used to do was he bought an exercise bike and he would peddle away on that for an hour or two every time he played other games.

Actual cycling outside would be better, but you'd get a good cardio run out of it!

Re: Game to help loosen weight

Hi gino_76ph. The main problem, as someone has already mentioned, is these games aren't going to burn enough calories to make you lose weight. You can work up a sweat, certainly, but an hours 'workout' is the equivalent of about one Mars bar.

Better than nothing, but more useful in recovering from a poor state of cardio-vascular fitness than losing weight.

Re: Game to help loosen weight

Agreed with kalniel. No game will make you lose weight. I used to practise with EA ACTIVE 2 for PS3, it gets boring after many tries and you lose interest. Initially, it did make me do spot running and that made me sweat.

Gym and healthy eating is the best way to go.

Re: Game to help loosen weight

If you must use a game for your weight loss, Wii Fit with the board will probably do you. I lost 1/2 a stone in 2 weeks using it, but the downside is that as you unlock more activities, the workout gets longer and longer.

Try walking whenever you can. Walking burns fat. Running burns even more!
And, try not to be a couch potato .. sit in your chair for whole day at work and sit in your sofa all day at home.

I don't know who told you to say "loosen weight" or "loosen-up weight", but please stop for the love of god.

I got a sweat on with Sports Champions with PS Move.
The mrs uses the Wii a lot for exercise and over the last 6 months or so has lost quite a bit of weight but also sticking to a diet has helped as well as the exercise.

What you can do is get some side and ankle plenty and some weight plenty and use them together with the encounter and you will actually start to see results.

Re: Game to help loosen weight

Some of the fighting orientated games are pretty intense, especially The Fight.

If I were you though, forget trying to game to lose weight, do as mentioned, game whilst on an exercise bike. Look into some DVD training programs, I have gone through 3 rounds of P90x and it does work, but you do need some equipment and a little space.

There are other similar programs available, even some on google play which are actually damn good for a couple of bucks. P90 was quite good with regards to motivation though.
