Cool Thinking of buyng a GameCube

I am thinking of buying a cheap GameCube off eBay possibly... I have never owned one (sad face), but I have played on one before with Pokemon Colosseum.

Would it be worth it? I would be buying it solely to play Mario Kart, Super Smash Bros. Melee, Pokemon Colosseum and probably Zelda... I think it would be, not just for sentimental value but also for the fun! I know these games would be insanely fun to play with friends or family, which is exactly what I plan to do.

Does anyone else still own a GC, or plan on buying one? Just thought I'd ask.

    Nostalgia commence!!

I would say so, they're brilliant machines and although I bought one day one I never really loved it until a couple of years ago. If you can get it for a good price then definitely go for it.

Eternal Darkness is still worth a play (I'd love to see a new one) and the Monkey Ball games are still fabulous. Then you have the best version of Resident Evil and a cracking Metal Gear Solid 2 title in Twin Snakes too, as well as those you've mentioned.

    Yes!

    Yes, yes, yes!

    OMG, Yes!

Read into that what you will, but get a Gamecube.

Alternatively, get a Wii - it runs all the GC games I believe (probably worth checking though) so it's a good bet. It also has WarioWare, which rocks. >.<

But yeah, I still have my Gamecube since launch and it's my console of choice 90% of the time, so many great games on that thing! Also, get Pikmin if you've never played it (the wii version is better and has multiplayer vs mode, but the GC one is still amazing), you wont regret it.

Re: Thinking of buyng a GameCube

I think it is a stupid idea to be thinking about a Game Cube and not adding Jet Set Radio to the collection, I bought a Game Cube a few years back just to play that game, truly awesome. Get it and then post back and tell us how much fun you're having.

Re: Thinking of buyng a GameCube

I've got a few, and some Dreamcasts (the correct console for playing Jet Set Radio).

For the money they are a great buy, with some excellent games. I think it's the most "grown up" of all Nintendo's consoles. If you've got a Wii, you've technically already got a GC, but they are neat little things to have on their own.

So don't hesitate, just get one. Or two.

Re: Thinking of buyng a GameCube

I also agree with the Wii thing. You can get them 2nd hand for £20-30 then you just need to grab a couple GC controllers.

I love my GC games & Dreamcast. Still use them often.

    Resident Evil 1 remake
    Ikaruga
    Metal Gear remake
DK Jungle Beat (if you can get some bongos!)
    Viewtiful Joe
    Paper Mario
    Eternal Darkness
Metroid (but you can get the Wii remakes)
Super Smash Bros (I prefer it to the Wii version)
    Zelda

    Oh the list goes on.

Re: Thinking of buyng a GameCube

Get one, its my next purchase, got the SNES for Christmas to go alongside all my other machines.

A friend of mine may actually have one, will give him a shout to see what exactly he has and put you onto him.

Alternatively, if you've got a decent pc, take a look at the Dolphin emulator. It's got fairly decent compatibility and I've successfully used it for Mario Kart, Smash Bros and Mario Party. I've got a Wii with GC controllers too, but sometimes the freedom of a wireless Xbox 360 controller is needed!

But it does play better as part of the Metroid Prime Trilogy on Wii, surprisingly!

Re: Thinking of buyng a GameCube

DO IT! I got one when all my friends got PS2s, they now never play the PS2 games but ill still crank up the old gamecube and play!
Has a really good multiplayer experience without any of this online stuff and also has the best loading screen and by far the best controller ever made known to mankind!
    Wavebird only made it better!

Maybe I got the consoles mixed up, but I definitely bought a console just so I could play JSR, and spent many hours on it, I definitely got my monies worth and I have had both consoles and a Wii.

I had one a while back, so much fun I had playing it. I'd say get one for sure you need to experience the gamecube to know the gamecube.
