Ps3 + Linux?????????

I'm lost with this so to be brief... slimline ps3, firmware v4.70, can I put a Linux partition on my ps3? And if so, how?!

ISTR the ps3 slim had the ability to run Linux stripped from it. You need an older model, and I think old firmware on it.

Its been a while since I wandered the scene but Rebug offer OtherOS options in their custom firmware. No idea on hardware requirements but you will certainly need to downgrade your PS3 to firmware version 3.55 to start with. This requires specialist hardware and skill! Oh and its all unofficial so your warranty will be void.

Does anyone do this? It'd nearly be worth the postage and a few quid. I haven't ever worked with console firmware etc so I'd be reluctant.

rebugs site is rebug.me. On the right hand side they offer links to other sites where you might find info in their forums. I came across a couple of people in the UK on facebook but they seem to specialise in particular models

There's really very little point.

The things that made the PS3 hardware interesting to run Linux on in 2006 just aren't here anymore. It's an expensive hot machine with too little RAM and no 3D driver, right now.
