Help Please - Nintendo Switch, transferring account etc to new Switch

Hi, need help from a Switch fanbois

My son dropped his Switch in the bath and despite my best efforts to revive it, it only lasted another couple of weeks and now it wont turn on or charge properly. I suspect I need to replace the video/charging chip but that's another story.

Anyways his birthday is coming up soon so he'll be getting a replacement switch but I need to know whether it's possible to set up the new switch with his old account info etc and download all his games & saves, particularly his Pokemon progress.

I've seen guides on the interwebs but all them require the old switch to be working and on the same wi-fi network as the new one and in this case that's not possible, so I guess my quesiton is, is there some sort of cloud restore function that I can do or should I prepare him for the worst and tell him he'll have to start from scratch again?

    Cheers

    J

Got the online membership? If so and it's a compatible game it sounds like it automatically saves games into the cloud.

Thanks the games aren't so much the problem, as yes we have online membership. It's more around linking the his account to the new switch as I think it can only be paired with one device at a time, seem to remember reading something about that when I set the switch up.

Not sure if this will help you :

Your Switch must be running 6.0.0 or later. You can only do the web based de-registration once a year.

    Go to https://accounts.nintendo.com
Sign in to the Nintendo Account you wish to deactivate.
    Click Shop Menu.
    Click Deregister Primary Console.
    Enter your Nintendo Account password.
    Click Deregister twice to confirm.

When you get a new Nintendo Switch login to the Nintendo eShop. The new Switch will then be set as your primary console.

Thanks Jon I think that’s exactly what I’m looking for. Not sure if it’ll transfer the cloud data but it should mean his old sdcard with saves & data etc should work in the new one. his switch was on the latest firmware so we should be good.
