DVI > HDMI Connection... What Cable?!

Hello chaps,

Question for you. I've currently got an ATi 9800XT card. I'll soon be upgrading this for a 8800GTS ( bare in mind ).

I've also got a Sony 40" LCD ( W range ).

What DVI>HDMI Cable would be compatible with this setup?!

I purchased this a few weeks ago, it turns out I really didn't do my homework and it just doesn't work. Having had a look at the DVI connector it certainly isnt the same as my 24" dell monitor connector. Yet the DVI>HDMI cable makes no referance to the 'type' of DVI cable it is?

Is DVI the only cable connector standard... that.... well, isn't standard?!

If someone could link me to somewhere I can buy a DVI>HDMI cable that will work with my 9800XT and 8800GTS I would be most grateful.

Any ought to work. Get a cheapy one from eBay, it's all you need. Are you sure the problem wasn't that the telly just didn't like the signal it was being fed? Some are quite fussy about resolutions/timings (I know mine was over DVI I'm using VGA now, it works better)

Well, I still have that cable so if you've any suggestions on how to get the bugger to work!!

The problem with that Sony TV is the VGA isnt 1080p - only the HDMI sockets. I tried using various resolutions with the PC with no joy I don't even get an 'out of sync' message or anything like that - just doesn't even seem to notice it's there.

Like I said though, the DVI connector is alot differant to the one on my monitor - it has extra pins and a 'Cross' in the side rather than a line. ( did that make _any_ sense? )

Synchronisation timings.. there's probably some info related to your tv on www.avforums.com, there's a thread there for most LCD tellies including how to get the PC input working.

Have you tried getting 1080 over VGA? My tv aparantly only supports 1024x768 over VGA

The different pins are for DVI-A, DVI-D and DVI-I, if it's got them all then it ought to work


you'll be able to use a program called PowerStrip to set custom resolutions/timings, do some reading

I did try getting 1080 over VGA and it didnt work

I couldn't find any information on avforums about it... I did look, honestly!! Don't know if i was searching for something completely un-related or what but I really couldn't find anything.

If you can find one, would be ever so grateful for a link!

Need to find out if they really do work, Amazon were expecting these RMA'd 2 weeks ago and I've not yet got round to sending them off!!
