The fight scenes were very well done IMO, and very long which is what I like in a fight scene

One thing that did hack me off was the subtitles our cinema decided to show them. Very annoying when you're trying to concentrate on the film but keep looking at the text

Me and even my GF both liked it. The typical Hollywood ending was the only thing I did not enjoy.

Agreed, the ending felt a little tacked on/cliched - "some believe...bla bla...but I like to think...".
Also, it's pretty hard to avoid drawing comparisons to Dances with Wolves as a lot of the same ground is covered there but still excellent film once it got going.

Fantastic film, beautifully shot, wonderfully acted and the action was great.

Tom Cruise really is a movie star!

it was certainly miles better than the trailer made it out to be . . . I was dreading it (but watched it coz L.I.T. was sold out both times I went to the cinema) . . . and I have to say it's not all completely BS, quite an entertaining watch

    I'm amazed I haven't posted here already!
SUPERB film, enjoyed it far more than Return of the King, it had everything, hollywood ending irritated me a bit, but really outstanding performances all round.

    Really enjoyed!

The whole way through it I kept recognising sound bites from Shogun : Total War Went home and played medievil...

Excellent movie I thought. Went in expecting some rubbish and completely implausible pro yank story line but I was happily surprised. The locations and costumes looked very authentic (I couldnt tell u if they actually were but they looked the part for me). I was fascinated by the armour the samurai wore and the swords.

The clash of culture was also very interesting, seeing the perfect example of west forces itself upon east (deja vu ne1?).
But like everyone else has said, total Hollywood ending...

For a brief moment I actually thought old Cruise would die! YES! A film brave enough to kill the lead in a dramatic and meaningful way! But no...

"No, I'll tell you how he lived..." - Oh please

Tom Cruise is an average actor. He doesn't have the range or capacity to make a film his own. The film is held together by the excellent Ken Watanabe, who's turn as the honourable Katsumoto is sublimely acted.

Tom could be swapped out for any one of 20 actors and we'd not miss him. He's a box-office star who's primary role is place bums on seats. It's a good film, sure, but Tom is cruising on autopilot throughout. Others' efforts push an average film into the beginnings of a good one.

Worth a watch, but Cruise is no Toshiro Mifune.
