    Freesat Forum

just got my Freesat HD up & running today with the Humax Foxsat HD box. quick start, straightworward, no questions. but several issues i want to raise:

    1. as advertised you're suppose to have 80 channels. i only got 74 even after 3-4 rescans. any idea why?

    2. previously i have Freeview using a Humax freeview box. i also happen to have a 42" Sony 1080p LCD. i noticed: Freeview SD picture clarity is better that Freesat SD. why si that? any explanation?

higher bitrate/resolution on freeview, especially for BBC channels

    Re: Freesat Forum

but what about these too many unecessary channels? several BBC channels broadcast the same BBC1 & BBC2 channels.

too many "old" channels like Men&Motors, this "Zone" channels, etc.

why not bring Bravo or maybe Hallmark channel or a similar movie channle like HBO, Sky Movies, etc.

it's up to the channel operators to decide whether they want to pay the (significantly) higher rental costs on the astra2 cluster to go without sky's proprietary encryption - then further work for them to agree on a way to get channel metadata (show descriptions etc) added to the freesat streams

    it's not that simple

    Re: Freesat Forum

sure it's up to the channel operators but the bottom like is some channels on Freesat are totally unecessary. the main reason why i took Freesat is for the BBC and the ITV HD channels but i was disappointed of the "not so clear" SD channels.

did a manual rescan, did found more than 100 channels but most of them are encripted and scrambled.

i know Freesat will add more channels by each month but if i'm not satisfied with it (channels being added, SD clarity, etc.) then i might as well switch back to Freeview and wait for their HD service to start.(in 2009?)

    Eurobird 1 & Astra 2A/2B/2C/2D at 28.2°E - LyngSat

stuff in light yellow (SD) and light green (HD) is available without sky. yeah, there's a lot of duplicates - but some people want access to their regional ITV/BBC, rather than just having ITV generally.

    Re: Freesat Forum

switched back to the "ordinary Freesat" SD/HD line-up coz i found the 300+ channels dizzy-ing and was totally unecessary.

wheever i like to watch Five and the other channels i also switch back to my Sony LCD which has a built-in freeview on it.

why does Freesat has "less bitrate/resolution" than Freeview? im "struggling" with Freesat's SD channels. it's not clear enough....

just does. there are more channels crammed in.

compare Latest snapshots - Freeview/DTT bitrates (Mendip transmitter, UK) to Digital satellite channels bitrate.

    note, fr'example, film4 is 1.4mbit average versus 2.2mbit average

so, does that mean the more channels on a service the less bitrate?

    Re: Freesat Forum

Is anyone else here using a PC with a DVB-S card such as the Hauppauge WinTV-NOVA-HD-S2 to watch freesat? BBC HD is easy to set up, and I've almost got ITV HD working reliably.

    Re: Freesat Forum

itv hd is NOT h262, despite what the stream is marked as

    it's h264

it IS wrapped up to be partially unrecordable though - you're meant to use red-button interactivity to switch from regular recordings to HD simulcasts

Got ITV HD working on DvbViewer with Hauppage Nova S2 HD. It is very easy to set up just download and install channel.ini file.
