    Toshiba 40XF355DB Dead

Can anyone enlighten me as i think my new TV is dead . The screen does not seem to be displaying all colours, most of the colour is a bright blue colour (similar to the standby screen colour). I have had it only 2 months.

It makes no difference if the input is the SKY box, DVD player, XBox or WII.

Called Currys and they told me I had to call Toshiba to log a warrenty call, I have done so but wondered if anyone knew what this was, how it was caused and if it is repairable.

I will try to post a pic up.

Check the connections in the back of the TV? Maybe there's one loose?

I had this within 10 minutes of unpacking my Samsung 32" 3 years ago, it looked exactly like that pic. I had it exchanged same day.

Also, its the retailers responsibility to take care of it, if I were you I would demand a suitable response and if not start 'escalating' (who is your manager, i want to speak to him/her ad infinitum')

If you've only had it 2 months I would box it back up, walk back into Currys with the receipt and get it exchanged! You are well within your rights to do that

I wouldn't do that myself, not after two months. With a new product, yes, as you can reasonably expect a replacement within one month of use, but not with a set that's two months old. If the shop faff you about, by all means get arsey, but doing so straight away will probably mean you're not likely to get the best of service!

You can certainly demand the shop deal with it, but there's no real reason to, unless the manufacturer faff you about. Making the shop do it only complicates matters, Citizens Advice will tell you the same thing. If you have an opportunity to deal with it yourself, thereby taking away one part of the 'chain', it'll almost always work to your advantage.

If the shop have to deal with it, it'll get done when they see fit (which will possibly be a while if you use the "who is your manager" line straight off the bat ), whereas if you can call yourself it'll get done straight away. You can deal direct with the person who is handing things at the manufacturer, rather than 5 different assistants at the shop. If you want to check up on it's status you can, whenever you want, rather than getting fobbed off by the shop assistants. And you'll likely get straight answers too.

    Nah, you're not I'm afraid

For starters the retailer is allowed 'reasonable time' to evaluate what's wrong with the set, and to work out what's causing the fault, this may involve returning it to the manufacturer. Many faults are caused by mis-use, and whilst I'm not saying in any way that this is the case in this instance, the retailer has an opportunity to make sure. And even though 2 months is a short period of time, it's still long enough for a fault to develop, so they will have the option of repair, in most cases.

They rarely swap anything, unless it's an extremely open and shut case. With electrical goods, the item almost always needs to be examined, to diagnose the fault.

Anyway, the OP has already said that the store told him to make a service call, so they clearly don't plan on swapping it.

I've been to my local Currys a number of times and they have just simply swapped items for me. There was one occasion when they refunded me for a six month old Nintendo 64... however this was a while back.

I think it may differ depending on which brand you visit.

It shouldn't really, big chains usually have a fairly standard policy. I think it more depends on what you're returning. If you took a kettle back it's easy to swap, a TV however is trickier to swap, unless it's a glaringly obvious scrap job, or known inherent fault. That doesn't seem to be the case here, as the set seems to be working again. If it is I seriously doubt the shop will entertain a swap.

Someone working for said electrical retailer on another forum mentioned that their policy is to inspect every major electrical item, which usually involves returning it to the manufacturer. The reason for that is for testing, and to get approval from the manufacturer as to how to proceed. If the store replaced the TV, but Toshiba then repaired it and sent it back to them, the store would have to take the loss.
