1920x1080 over VGA for LCD TV

    Hello all,

thinking of upgrading to a 37-40 inch tv from my current 32 and one thing is baffling me. I run a media PC to my existing PC over VGA and that displays the native panel resolution of 1366x768 fine. I had taken for granted that this would be the case also for 1080p panels, with a resolution of 1920x1080...

But I read somewhere that this might not be the case, so basically, asssuming that the 2400XT in my media PC can handle it, is the limiting factor the VGA specification itself, or sometime the individual TV...

Its not something I considered before, and its enough hassle to actually pick a tv at all, let alone worry if i can connect the media PC to it... And I know that i could get a card that outputs to HDMI, but lets say I would like to know for VGA first...

    Thanks for any info...

    JP

You can put that resolution down a VGA cable with no problems, but quality might suffer.
If I connect my 1920*1200 Dell over VGA compared to DVI there is a *huge* difference in quality. I'd suspect its the same with that

HDMI / DVI not an option?

Thanks for all the responses - To be honest, I'd most likely use HDMI, but incase the TV I went for had problems with over/under scan etc, or might not have DVI, I know that pretty much every set has a VGA port. Just wanted to make sure that I could still use it as a fall back in case HDMI didnt work as expected.

Just means that its another check to do is all - and its not always something that gets shown (if at all really).

    Thanks again chaps!
