Anyone live in Edinburgh? Free Sony lectures & workshops in 2010

    Hi all,

I'm putting on a series of lectures and workshops in Edinburgh in the new year. It's a small forum, so a bit of a long shot, but I thought I may as well stick them up here as well:

Edinburgh University Photosoc and Sony Proudly Present - Dave Lawrence
A talk on African & Indian wildlife photography with professional wildlife photographer Dave Lawrence
    Date: Tuesday, 26 January 2010
    Time: 19:00 - 22:00

Edinburgh University Photosoc & Sony proudly present a lecture by professional wildlife photographer and photographic safari leader Dave Lawrence.

Dave will be talking about his work and background. Covering aspects of long-lens and wildlife photography technique, the photographic industry and Africa and India as photographic destinations, Dave's talk promises to be of great interest to those of us with aspirations towards similar career paths.

Edinburgh University Photosoc and Sony Proudly Present - Celia Henderson
A hands-on macro photography workshop with Celia Henderson
    Date: Tuesday, 02 February 2010
    Time: 19:00 - 22:00

Edinburgh University Photosoc & Sony proudly present a hands-on macro workshop with Celia Henderson.

Celia will be leading a workshop covering all aspects of creating beautiful close-up work. Attendees are invited to bring their own cameras and lighting equipment, as well as suitable subjects.

This event will be strictly limited to 30 participants.

Edinburgh University Photosoc and Sony Proudly Present - Duncan McEwan
Professional landscape photographer Duncan McEwan presents the Scottish Highlands
    Date: Tuesday, 16 February 2010
    Time: 19:00 - 22:00
Edinburgh University Photosoc & Sony proudly present a lecture on contemporary landscape photography with Duncan McEwan.

Duncan will be talking on aspects of the art and craft that he uses to create his work. Having photographed the Scottish landscape for over 40 years now, Duncan will talk about both his own influences and his hope to influence others to pay greater attention to the conservation of our environment.

Edinburgh Photosoc and Sony Proudly Present - Michael Wayne Plant
Professional fashion and beauty photographer Michael Wayne Plant gives a workshop and portfolio review session
    Date: Tuesday, 23 February 2010
    Time: 19:00 - 22:00

Edinburgh University Photosoc & Sony proudly present a fashion portraiture workshop with Michael Wayne Plant.

Michael will conduct a live photoshoot, demonstrating to attendees different lighting styles and techniques of working with models.

After the shoot, Michael will cast his experienced eye over the work of the attendees. Work to be considered for critique should be consistent with the theme of the workshop and must be pre-submitted in both electronic and physical form. Details will be available shortly.

Edinburgh University Photosoc and Sony Proudly Present - Alonso Diaz
A hands-on workshop with Spanish professional technical landscape photographer Alonso Diaz
    Date: Tuesday, 02 March 2010
    Time: 12:00 - 17:00

Edinburgh University Photosoc & Sony proudly present a hands-on workshop with Alonso Diaz.

Aided by his assistant Jorge, Alonso will lead a workshop around several Edinburgh locations, demonstrating to attendees his range of photographic techniques. As he specialises in everything from portable lighting to tripod-based landscape work, this should make for an eye-opening experience!

R.S.V.P. is essential to all events - please do so to photosoc.ed@gmail.com. You can come to as many as you like! They're all free, so hopefully this isn't breaking any forum rules! Any questions, stick them in the thread

can't find a website for Dave
Celia has a site which has a bunch of flowers on it, i wouldn't say they were particularly macro
Duncan has some ok landscapes, but our very own Hamish takes better..
Michael has a bunch of un inspiring shots on his site..
Alonzo is the only one out of all the above that has pics that say wow ..

Re: Anyone live in Edinburgh? Free Sony lectures & workshops in 2010

Locations are still t.b.c. for most of these events - at this stage I just want to get dates in diaries. The macro workshop will be held in the Pleasance in Edinburgh. At this moment I'm planning to move the workshop with Alosno from the coastline to the north North Queensferry, down back past the Bridges and to end at night on Calton Hill, but that's definately up for discussion - even the date might change on that one. Should have that info by the end of this week.

The other 3 events will most likely be in Old Town, but it depends on the initial signups - venues will vary depending on whether I'm booking for 50 or 500.

Please promote these to anyone else you feel might be interested! I'll be doing my own promotion, but please feel free to do so yourself!

Yup, that's Dave. He runs photo safaris to Africa and India - sounds like a very interesting bloke.
