Going Canoeing in Scotland and want some shooting advice before I go

Hey all,

I`m spending next week canoeing the great glen and was hoping to take some photo`s whilst I was up there.

First up I have 2 4gig CF cards but am wondering if that will be enough space seeing as I`ll be away for a week.

Second does anyone have any general advice for taking pictures on water/ on the banks involving water>

Hmm I can't offer advice for that specific area, or that type of environment, but I think a Polarizing filter would help in terms of maybe reducing reflections and glares from the water? So you can see more detail...but it will depend on what angle you shoot at.

And the CF cards...depends on whether you shoot RAW or jpg, and how big you set your file resolution at...are you taking along a laptop? maybe you can transfer the contents of your cards across when convenient, and carry on shooting.

Not taking my laptop with me as its a bit too bulky. I`ll be shooting raw. The cards usually take about 300 raw pics per card...

If I was going to the Glens, I'll probably fill a card up a day! Especially if you start doing panoramics. However, I normally bring my netbook, which not only allows me to clear cards at the end of each day, it also allows me to get a better views of the shots I've taken. It depends on your style I suppose. I'm very much take what I can now and sort it out later, so end up taking a lot of repetitive shots.

I personally would take a couple more cards, or something to store the data off them at the end of each day (can't remember what they're called, but they're like an external HD with card slots).

Aside from a polariser, the only advice I'd have for water is to either take very fast photos, or very slow ones

8gb would be enough for me - but if you're worried then just be judicious with your use of RAW - jpg is fine for action shots in most cases.

+1 for circular polariser, plus maybe a couple of ND5 or ND8 - if u want to do slow water shots to get that look of flowing salt, you may be running at f40 max and still not be slow enough. I use a couple of ND8s for this.

And yes, more cards, another 2 or 3 4GBs.

I`ve ordered another 2 cards just to be on the safe side

Tripod will be packed and I have a remote control.

ND filters seem really expensive a little too much for me atm

Under a tenner for NDs in ebay new. What lens are u using ? filter diameter ?

dont skimp on ND's! under a tenner for a dodgy filter that will give you soft results?

and get 8GB cards instead of 4, the longer you can keep a card in the camera, the less likely you are of dropping it somewhere
