Looking for a New Large Screen TV

Hi all,

I recently got an Xbox 360 and quickly realized that the vital next step was a larger screen. Our living room is quite long so 32" is quite difficult to use unless you are around 1.5m away.

REQUIRED

• Max budget is £600 but may be happy to creep a little higher if its worth it.
• 46" or above
• Good Contrast Ratio
• Suitable for Console Gaming (low input lag), Home Cinema (Blu-Ray and HTPC) and Standard Freeview TV

DESIRED

• 3 HDMI Ports
• HD Freeview ready would be nice
• Digital Audio out via optical - I only have a 2 optical ins on the amp (currently 1 for xbox and one for HTPC) but we may be getting a PS3 aswell soon so i would use the TV to pass through the audio fromt he respective source to the amp

It really depends how much gaming/still images are on the screen. That will give an indication if the plasma sets are a decent option or not.

If you are looking at the 50PK350 plasma, then you should spend a little more and get the 50PK590.

From memory the differences are that it has Freeview HD, more HDMI's, better image processing, including much more natural colours (makes a huge difference IMHO).

to be honest those are just examples of things which fall into the price bracket im looking at. There are so many slightly varying models out there i was hoping for a proper solid model recommendation

The 350's pretty good but I remember reading that the input lag is fairly high for a plasma. Other than that - cracking TV for the money.

If you're a Costco member there's the Panasonic TXP50S20B 50" Plasma with 5 year warranty for £704.99...

i went for the 50PK590... its bloody lovely. I thought the input lag might be a problem but it seems im not as serious a gamer as i thought i was so im extremely happy.

Blimey, you're brave! You're supposed to transport large glass fronted TV's vertically since the glass is weak when it's lying horizontally. One large pot hole and cracked TV! Glad you got it back in one piece!

Tannoy Custom F1. I have 4 of them and the FC Custom centre. Sound awesome for the price, i chose them over some much more expensive models.

My 2 pence, I wouldn't go plasma if you are gaming because you can spend hours on the TV with the same image there when you game

yeah it has tonnes of connectivity aswell inc loads of HDMI, 2 x usb, ethernet, PCMCIA slot for wireless...
