Last good sci-fi film we had was minority report imo and that was a couple of years ago now.

my references to it being dune-esqu are with regard to the visual style, and even the soundtrack, which has similarities to that used in the original film version of Dune.

I'd love to see someone do Dune properly, but if I remember, David Lynch did do it, but it was 36 hours in length and had to be drastically cut, which is why large parts of the storyline are missing.

(Yes, I admit it, I am a huge fan of Dune myself)

I found the effects to be 2nd rate, definitely dune-esque. Don't know why the hell Lady Judy Dench gets a part..... :/

iirc Vin Diesel had said in the past he wanted to do a film with Judy Dench. I think it's part of his quest to avoid being stereotyped as a bag of muscles on screen a la Stallone, Van Damme etc. and be renowned for his "top notch" acting ability .....erm good luck then!

He has more acting ability than he's given credit for imo, his parts in saving private ryan and a man apart prove that for me.

Never thought about it, but I found Judy Dench a bit too 'uptight' for the role....

I think that may have been the idea, the elemental was meant to be like a walking computer (a mentat) almost emotionless, seeing things in black and white.. perhaps not the right casting, but I cannot thing of anyone who would have done it better

I mentioned yesterday morning at work that Eurotrip looked quite funny, but 2 guys that'd seen it said it was "Absolute crepe" (I mighta miss-heard that), and "I'd have asked for my money back if I'd paid to see it.." - He'd got a freebie at The Empire in Leicester Sq.
