I'm really getting exited for this news!

Don't understand this. Can't you just use the xbox one for a lot less and I'm sure there are dev kits already released.
Great - so now I'll be able to fly with my arms extended by my sides murming engine noises in their upcomming release of Flight.

I suppose the focal length for a PC based solution will be allot shorter than it's 360 cousin.
I have also read that Sony are adopting Kinect for use in future TV's.
It could also mean an end for a company like TrackIR
Was really tempted to get this when it came out for a bit of a mess about but not if its going to cost that much.
Also they're apparently licensing kinect technology out to laptop manufacturers for use with windows 8
- Asus will be first:

No cumbersome addons - it'll be built into the laptop / screens (and monitors eventually). The Daily had a chance to check out a pair of prototypes incorporating Kinect sensors over the last few days. The devices, which at first glance appear to be Asus netbooks running Windows 8, feature an array of small sensors stretching over the top of the screen where the webcam would normally be. At the bottom of the display is a set of what appear to be LEDs.
A source at Microsoft has confirmed that the devices are indeed official prototypes of laptops featuring a Kinect sensor.
My rig is also built for flight sim x, however I've only got the single monitor.
Although I would like to get TrackIR, and although it can work on a single monitor, to really feel the experience I think i'd need a tri setup.
Just thinking about it now though is making me want to buy it! I guess i'm off to look at prices.
Dont understand why it is priced so much higher than xbox version
I used the xbox kinect on the windows sdk and while good wasn't really optimised for it had to stand far back, I guess the windows one will be like mentioned before, with a shorter focus etc...
Anyone looked at the Asus Xtion - a kinect "clone" (hasn't microsoft patented it?):
Asus Xtion PRO:

Seems to be available as a dev kit:

@ £128.15
Awesome thanks
There`s also the fact that the Xbox version is no doubt subsidised to an extent as they`ll be making money on the software.
Pc version will be more about the profit on hardware.
Apparently they found that the distance people sit from the PC is much closer than that from the xbox, so they'll have to re-engineer to make it work.
They will also sell a hell of a lot less of em.
