Advice please: A good quality card reader?

HI all, I bought a Scan 'Vantager' card reader, most likely some type of cheap chinese rebrand, and its steadily become such a pain to use - introduces errors to simple mp3 files copied to SD cards etc.
Am ready and willing to buy a new card reader, i dont think i have any particular needs other than it needs to read SD and Compact Flash, and i'd rather a 'stand alone' type (ie not inside my PC).

Am probably wanting a 'brand' name - any recommendations please?

Search for "lexar udma reader" - they have a USB3 version out now. I've had the USB2 version for a few years and it works well.

I've been using the USB2 version for a few years now (ever since I invested in a couple of SanDisk Extreme 4GB CF cards) and it's been fantastic. Really tempted to upgrade to USB3 and get the new version, I've had a couple of occasions recently when I've filled my 8GB card and my two 4GBs along with a bunch of footage on a 8GB SD card. Copying all that to the PC takes ages over USB2.

If it is internal, I found the Akasa card readers pretty good

I know this isn't particularly helpful, but I've had two brand-name units recently that lasted well under 12 months.

Another was Jessops.

So I wouldn't bother with either of them. I get the impression that whatever it says on the label, there's some right rubbish out there.

Mine arrived and oh joy it's fantastic I actually get my cards' full rated speeds of 30MB/s read/write now Wonder what affordable cards can go up to these days?
