Help - PC via receiver to TV :(

really miffed with this issue. ok if i connect any pc (tried 4) to my LG TV i get perfect picture and sound via HDMI. however if i go through my Sony STR-DH520 receiver/amp it's grainy with a smaller picture and a black boarder. I have tried overscan and lots of windows settings but the issue seems to be from the Sony STR-DH520. Anyone come across this or have any ideas, i'm good with computers but not so with AV stuff. do i need a certain type of HDMI cable to go from receiver to the TV?

Is this somethihng to do with the various versions of HDMI ?? 1.3 rings a bell... What's the Sony specced for ?

Older HDMI versions or different cables won't make a difference. Have you checked the AVR settings to see if it's doing something to the signal, like displaying in a different aspect ratio or using odd zoom settings?

As things work PC->TV the AVR has to be the weak spot in the chain, so logically, it's altering the PC signal somehow.

When you connect the pc through the Sony is the audio contolled by a Realtek driver or is it Intel display audio? If it's display audio does it say LG tv or Sony receiver?

Might sound stupid but have you checked the resolution on your PC when connected through the receiver. Windows may see it as a different device that way and may have changed the reolution.
