Wireless 5.1 surround speakers

Hey gang, my dilemma is that I am not allowed wired 5.1 speakers. No wiring allowed. By decree of the missus

So, I'm left with the wireless option. Has anyone got a 5.1 wireless speaker setup?
Is it good?
Is it expensive?

Something cheaper than the Yamaha YHT-S401 soundbar (which would be a serious option if it wasn't £500.

From what I have been reading, you need to spend around 1200 quid to get the same quality you would from a £500 wired setup. Basing this on a few magazine articles and I could be seriously wrong in this estimation, but I think Wireless has a long way to go as far as speaker setups are concerned.

I'm sure one of our resident audiophiles will be along to confirm or slate this opinion just shortly

Yeah, I bought a load of it for my system although I never got around to running it under the carpet

Wireless isn't really there yet for anything I'd consider decent unless you're talking big money, something like the Free system:

That said you don't (and I mean it!) want to look at the price tag.

The other issue with wireless is you then lack the ability to upgrade easily. You'll end up having to change everything, rip up the carpet/walls etc, so you may as well do it right once, then live with it.

JBL do wireless Control 1s, but they're 2.0. You could buy 3 sets. But they're £300+ per set, compared to £60 a pair at Richer for the wired version. What you need here is a tantrum, and hold it until her indoors gives in. Tell her she's ruining your life by not letting you have wired...

Not sure if it helps, but if you can stomach an all-in-one package Samsung do a 'wireless rear speaker adapter'... which you just wire the rears to instead?
