LG 60PM970T or Pannasonic TX-P50VT50B

Hi all,

Its time to upgrade my TV i think.

At the moment i have an LG 50PK590. Its a mid-range 50" Plasma and has been an awesome TV.

Ive had a look at the LG 60PM970T and Pannasonic TX-P50VT50B as i fancy a top of the range one this time as i love my home cinema now i couldnt live without it!

Will i really notice much difference on the Panny to the LG in picture quality? Or will i just regret not going for the 60" for the extra size?

Which one has better 3D. Is 3D any better on LED TV's compared to Plasma?

I have used neither TV but from the plethora of TVs I have used and owned, the Panny will almost certainly have a better picture and be of a far superior build quality.

I would take a trip into richer (or another showroom) and demo the screens before deciding.

Quite often Richer Sounds can't demonstrate TVs (or audio) properly due to lack of space. MK, my local RS, is like that.
John Lewis might have a dedicated 3d room - MK has - so that could be the best place to start.

Does anyone know when the 4k TV's will be out at all? Probably not going to be worth getting on first release but was just interested. Is it worth waiting?

The 4K displays are only useful for one thing: PC output.

If you need a high-res desktop or want to game at 3840x2160, then 4k is useful........but if you are going to spend most of your time watching TV and film, 4k is going to be useless for the best part of the next 10 years. We do not even have a disk format for it yet.....

Thanks for that mate, just the reply i was looking for!

It will be mainly for watching films (from a HTPC) and a bit of gaming too so i will stick with the ones i was looking at for now and think about 4k a few years down the line.

I heard rumours the PS3 was going to be 4k is that true?

I think teh Panasonic VT50 is probably the best 2D picture you can get in a consumer set at the moment.

There should be some good dcisounts around at the moment as the new VT60 series should be out from April onwards

Depending on where in London you are, HiSpek have a viewing room, and are usually on a par with JL and Richer as far as pricing/warranty goes...
