    Monitor Recommendation (23-24 inch)

    Hello all,
I was wondering if you could help me decide on a good 23-24" HD monitor that I could use for gaming, browsing the internet, and watching TV/movies. So far I was thinking of the following ones:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B005QVZ79C/

    http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/303018...7Cprd:30301847

Which one do you think would do a better job? Are there any other ones that you can think of?
    Thank you,
    Varmint

For 24" I would be looking at Dell range first since they have great reviews.

Out of those 2, LG should give you a wider viewing angle but the Acer would be better for viewing movies?

I've used those Acer screens - they're good, but definitely budget options.

I'd be looking primarily at Dell and LG with IPS panels, probably LED as well for thin screens and low weight. Having said that, we're talking more around £170 IMO for the ones I'm thinking of. The LG you mentioned looks like it fits those specs and is also a great value option - LED and IPS.

Big question for me is the warranty. Some places will replace with 1 dead pixel, others won't. For me, spending £150 on a monitor with dead pixels wasn't an option.

My Brother, about 9 friends and myself all have Dell UltraSharp 2412M monitors for almost the exact same uses as yourself and they are beautiful monitors and come highly rated. The difference between it and my old Samsung T220 Syncmaster that it replaced is just outstanding!

Scan have them in for a really good price, cheaper then getting one directly from Dell in fact!

    Dell 2412M Monitor

    Re: Monitor Recommendation (23-24 inch)

You may also want to consider getting a smaller size. The 2412 is a great monitor as Rookie mentioned, but the 2212 is a bit cheaper and still has the same number of pixels.

They're both 1920*1080, so same amount of detail on the screen, but on a 22" monitor all of those details are slightly smaller. That doesn't bother me (I guess it depends on eyesight), so I went for the 2212.

No the Dell 2412 is 1920x1200 while the Dell 2212 is just 1920x1080.

I would also recommend the 24" Dell U2412M, seems the best monitor for that price, am hoping to upgrade from my HP2405wg's one day to these.

So it is. Knew the 2212 and 2312, didn't realise 2412 changed spec. Point stands though that 21.5" or 22" may do the trick for the OP.

    Re: Monitor Recommendation (23-24 inch)

It seems like the Dell Ultrasharp is the way to go. What do you all think about the following monitor?

    http://www.aria.co.uk/SuperSpecials/...roductId=46999

However, unlike the U2412M (which has a resolution of 1920x1200) it has a 1920x1080 resolution instead. Do you think it is worth it paying 40 pounds more for the extra inch? Also is a 1920x1200 resolution very advantageous over a 1920x1080 resolution?

    Thanks again,
    Varmint

Yes, £40 extra is worth it for these few examples, 1920x1200 is a true gamers resolution, it's aspect ratio is 16:10 and not 16:9, a lot of games prefer 16:10, while some will give you "black borders" around the edge, for example like America's Army 3. Also 1920x1200 gives you a lot more room to work on. Finally the resell value will be higher for the screen then a 1920x1080p

I would also start considering touch screen monitors, with the upcoming windows 8 release - of course i would not jump straight in with windows 8 on a desktop but it may be something to consider
