    DVD Extras

    Just out of interest, how many of you actually sit down and watch the bonus DVD disks you get with films, pakced with extra footage of the director walking his dog or something? Personally I just watch the film, I don't really bother with the extra bits ...

    Same here mate. Im really not that bothered about dvd extras though if you enjoy them then they do add value for money- decent ones that is. I found the matrix revisited bonus disc quite intresting and definately the lord of the rings special features but most are not worth the bother.

    I much prefer a nice cheaper no/far fewer extras dvd like the one disc Donnie Darko which was only a fiver and the day after tomorow, master and commander etc. If there were more of these one disk editions i could afford more dvd's. I would probably have never bought donnie darko but as it was only a fiver i thought why not and im so glad i did pick it up, great film

    I personally love the extras depending on what they are... I like the making of bits and its great when they have out takes. Once or twice I've watched with the directors commentary which were interesting but I dont have the time for it any more.

    In the US for some time now they have been releasing versions of dvd's with no extras but used up the space with better sound and higher quality image which is great for people who dont want extra's or want really high quality.

    I rarely can be bothered to watch the extras. Their usually boring, but there are a few which i did find interesting. Iid rather sacrifice the bonus material and get super-bit versions (which i think are limited to Columbia - Tristar) which have better picture/sound as a replacement for the bonus stuff. Its the film that matters to me

    I HATE the "making of's" as watching some stunt double run around in a blue suit in a blue room is not my idea of a good time. It also completely ruins the magic of the film for me..... hellooooooo i'm trying to suspend my disbelief?? dont show me where you hid the wires, i dont want to know!

    Directors commentary can be interesting for arty films. The one on 'American Beauty' was interesting and there were loads of cool touches the director had used that i had missed.

    Deleted scenes and bloopers can be fun.

    I think its all just there to fill up the disk to make copying harder. It's amazing, once you strip out the crap, most films will fit on a single layer disc.

    Interviews with Dennis Hopper are good too, but i still havent found out how he went from Apocalypse Now and Easy Rider to Super Mario Brothers and Space bloody Truckers.
    Do you think when Jesus comes back..... he ever wants to see another cross.......? *{God bless you Bill}

    If there's a 1 disc and 2 disc version of a film, I'll buy the 2 disc special edition.

    ... and then not watch any of the features.

    Kevin Smith films and Back to the future are really the only ones I've been interested in. But directors commentry is good if its a film you love and have watched loads.

    if you only tend to watch the films and not the extras then keep an eye out for superbit editions of films as these are films with no extras but best pic and sound you can get(better than std disc). These are mostly region 1 films however, but worth getting.
    I do know everything, just not all at once. It's a virtual memory problem.

    I'll always buy a two disk version, and TRY to find time to watch the extras. If I buy another DVD before I watch the extras from the previous one though, I'm not too bothered. If you buy a disk with extras on, but don't watch them, then you've just lost out on half the disk, and also wasted half your money too.

    I might look out for these "no extras" disks, assuming the quality is noticable better, otherwise I won't bother.
