If they made a G19 in silent mechanical, I'd likely have one by now.
As is, I'd miss the fancy features and haven't really found mech to be any more useful. Certainly doesn't make me a better gamer, or anything...

I love my mech (CM QFR "Blacks") but it won't make you better at gaming, probably... YMMV.
The thing I love is the weight and solid feel, membrane keyboards tend to be spongy and the keys don't have any real control when being pressed.
I'm not a fan of these Logitech gamer style keyboards, they remind me of a teens gaudy Ford Fiesta. A Ducky or Filco style design (backlights are ok but tend fail) is in my opinion lovely. I have a new keycap set and now have an addiction to artisan keycaps.

very different, i remember moving to a cherry a few years back, it was like night and day, i loved going on the pc to use it, just typing, that satisfying feeling of hearing the clicks, and they were solid
I personally like mechanical ones for gaming with headphones on, I get annoyed with the sound when I use the pc for other stuff. I am looking at some decent alternatives for the futures though, I might even shelf out for that Apple keyboard, it feels awesome but I have a built in dislike for Apples overpriced stuff.
Once you switch to them, you might not want to switch back. The tactile feel really makes typing more comfortable. If you're on the fence, I'd say give a mechanical keyboard a spin before you commit. Reviews don't do them justice
