Rant time.

i bought 3 Tesco Hudl 2's at Christmas time for the 2 kids and wife. on Xmas day, we found my daughters one to have a faulty screen, wasn't stuck down properly. Quick call to Tesco and replaced.
A month later, my sons one just stops turning on. Quick call to Tesco and replaced.
3 weeks later, my sons one lights up but touch screen doesn't work. Quick call to Tesco and got a full refund.
Today, my wife's one screen crack for no apparent reason. Now i am annoyed.

i just know that they are going to say accidental damage caused the screen crack but due to the history i have had with them i feel i have some leverage to say otherwise.
Want to send my daughters one back for refund as i don't want to have them anymore. Not worth the money. Breaks the kids heart when i take their Christmas present off them.

Where do i stand? Any advice?

You got lucky with the replacements. I'm being told a non chargeable Hudl 2 needs to be sent away for repair. Tesco are being complete (insert appropriate abusive phrase) about it.

I know how you feel. I was told I had to wait for 3 weeks until I got my refund as it had to go back to the repair centre.

the default used to be IIRC that within the first 6 months any breaks are assumed to be inherent to the goods at time of purchase, and you can pretty much demand refund as a result. Not sure if that has changed recently.

It really bad that the common fault is to do with the screen and it looks like I am not the only one. Saw a FB post on the whole issue.

I was looking for a Nexus 7 2013 to replace my 2012 model which broke, but they're like rocking horse poo unless you want to pay daft prices, so I settled on the Hudl2. It seemed good specs for the price, but it's got some faults. Battery life for one, whereas the Nexus would last for 4 or 5 days of usage between charges, I get 2, max. Doing the same stuff as I was on the Nexus. I think next time I'm going to have to stump up and go for a Tab S or a Zx compact...

battery life is really bad on Hudl. Always seem to be charging them for the kids. they do play games / netflix on it so no wonder.

And to make matters worse, i cannot find the reciept for the Hudl.

Hmm, I was tempted to get one of them myself a while ago but ended up picking up one of those Linx7 tablets instead. I can't say it's been issue-free either.

Occasionally, you can leave it on charge for hours and the battery actually goes down. If you leave it on standby for a couple of days without fully shutting it down, the battery goes flat and it can be a pain to get it to turn back on.

And then there's some touchscreen accuracy weirdness, and Win8 usability in general (really not a fan of the two completely separate UIs and software versions, and being forced into desktop mode on a touchscreen for certain tasks can be quite frustrating). But I'll avoid derailing your thread.

Maybe you'd have better luck taking it in to a different store? But if they're having a lot of returns, perhaps they're avoiding replacing them all for cost reasons?

Another thing with the Hudl2: It needs a 2a charger. Try charging it with anything less and you get a message: Not enough power to charge the device. Fine at home, but when you're at work and all you've got is a USB cable from a computer, it's a pain.

Can anyone recommend a decently priced Hudl alternative? Preferably Android based with SD card slot.

Galaxy Tab 4? Not sure how much they are at the mo.

Keep an eye out for 2013 Nexus 7s?

Edit: Argos had the Nexus 7 2013 32Gb new for £150 last week. No SD card though.

The original Hudl can still be found as a "refurbished" deal for I think £70 which is £35 in Tesco vouchers if you have some.

The original Hudl had problems with the power connecter(usb), my daughters broke twice, once on the new one I got her and second time on the refurbished model they sent me. Though I didn't have to send any away for repair, thankfully had a next day swap out.

My son has broken two power connectors on two different tablets. I think wireless charging is ideal for kids, don't intend replacing them tbh. Neither of those were Hudl.

My brother who has bad sight has a habit of breaking USB sockets on phones and tablets.

I think the reversible connectors can't get here soon enough.
