    Using 110-240v charger in Japan?

I've got a digital camera (Panasonic Lumix DMC-FS3) that uses a removable Li-ion battery that you pop into an separate charger connected to the mains via a figure of 8 cable.

    The charger specs are

    input 110v=240v 50/60 Hz 0.2A
    output 4.2v 0.8A

Does anyone know if I can use this charger in Japan, which has mains at 100v?

    Thanks

    Buy adapter, plug in.

However, NEVER plug in 50hz only devices into a 60hz system, or the other way round.

I think you'll be fine with that. It's a universal switched mode PSU, so it's accepting a range of voltages. 110v is the standard for the USA, which is why it's usually quoted in the specs.

As for frequency, 50Hz or 60Hz won't matter. (It will affect synchronous motors which will rotate faster on a 60Hz supply, but that's not an issue here!) but it won't affect a SMPS, and your lumix psu is rated at 50/60 Hz anyway.

Just a note on the 50/60 hz thing.

Older kit is not always 50/60 compatable. Be careful especially with tranformer based power supplies.

True, although even transformers should generally be OK, but a switched mode PSU rectifies the mains input voltage and applies it to an inverter, so the difference in input frequency has negligible effect on operation.

But as you say, plugging 50Hz only or 60Hz only should only be connected to the appropriate frequency supply.
