As already mentioned you can get the files onto the PC, and I have also heard of this freeware decrypter. Not seen the thing myself, but ive been told that its slow and not the most stable.

Best way if you want to get a PVR and be able to get data off it is to get a combined DVD burner/PVR, or - as I have just purchased off ebay - a TiVo box

the boxes go for about £150 now with no subscription or £300 with a lifetime one, then you can add in a network card for various prices and use one of hte hundreds of hacks to stream the tivo recorded programs to your PC

TiVo can also have its hard drives upgraded simply, just a case of flashing it with the tivo firmware - tivo can even support up to 2 120gig drives with minimal effort

    much better than sky+ imo

I was under the impression that sky+ started life as Tivo, then had a name change to make more sense. So sky+ is competition to Tivo?

When you say lifetime subcription, to what? You have to subscribe to save TV?

    yeah

TivO came out at first, but it never really took off in the UK. You subscribe to the tivo service and get loads of cool features - check out www.tivo.co.uk for more info

People didnt like the idea of paying for the advanced services - sky charge you exactly the same price for less features, its just waived if you pay them more money for a bigger chan package.

Not quite as integrated, but its smooth and dead easy to use with my NTL box - and anything that works with ntl has got to be good lol

I'll have one for sale in a few days if your interested [cant really justify having 2 tbh], dunno about how much they are worth now but i can look around and find a price for it if your interested

Look on ebay for Tivo with a lifetime sub, they at least allow you to be independant of Mr Murdoch if that is what you want. Tivo is superior to Sky+ I believe and there is a community here.....
