AA/AAA Battery Charger

Does anyone have any recommendations for a AA/AAA battery charger?

Not looking to break the bank but individual sensing would be useful.

Amazon is awash with no namers and I already got one charger that I am sceptical of (even though that is a Uniross one) so want to avoid wasting money.

At the moment they seem to charge in like 15 mins but never last very long so I doubt it's working properly.

As above Ikea without a doubt, also the rechargeable batteries are awesome, basically eneloops in disguise.

I have used it for 18650 cells, but mostly AA. I use single batteries in things like the Rift hand controllers so single charge has been very much used.

Not the most compact of things, but then the smaller chargers I've had have all been rubbish

I've been using a Technoline BL 700 for years. I think there's a discussion about tem on here, about 10 years ago. I use it for "modern" rechargeables, like NiMH but I don't think it does older NiCad (and to be fair, who still uses them).

It does AA and AAA, and you can mix and match, I believe, though I've not tried it. It shows individual cell status, including charge voltage etc, and each cell can aslo be set to charge, discharge or refresh, independently. I've had a few cells that appear dead, and after a couple of discharge/refresh cycles, have come back to give quite a bit more service. Though to be fair, not all did.

So far, I've been very impressed but I have only been using it for .... y'know what, I don't remember .... 10 years? 15?

Anyway, it suited my needs perfectly. It isn't the cheapest charger out there (£35-ish, IIRC) but if mine packed up, I'd immediately order another.

There is a big brother too - BL-1000 I thnk. I don't remember what the differences are (other than price). It might support more cell sizes?? I only needed AA & AAA though, so went BL-700 and don't regret it even a little bit.

Amazon do them, but I didn't get it from them. I used BatteryLogic. I've used them a fair bit and so far, had excellent service. I get the impression they're a fairly small company, small team. But friendly, and if I've had questions or wanted advice, I've yet to find them not willing and able to help.

Note - BatteryLogic seem to do a model with 1000 in the name but from a quick look, it's not the big brother I was referring to. I'm pretty sure BatteryLogic used to carry the BL-1000 but it doesn't look like they still do.

That Ikea one looks good for a fiver - so many things take 3 batteries these days!

Well a lot of the kids toys take 6 at a time! I had thought about going for an 8 so i can do them all in one go for him, but undecided on that yet

One thing here, there is a possibility that your charger is fine but the cell is trashed? They can be quite easy to damage if one a cell that is flat is put in with a cell with plenty of charge that can try and drive the flat cell backwards.

A decent charger will tell you how much charge it put into each cell, so you can get an idea of how worn it is.

I use the EBL batteries and chargers. All fine so far. Had them a good couple of years now. Their bigger charger is better IMO in that it does all sizes AAA-D and 9V PP3 and has a more useful LCD screen telling you the charge status, plus it has a discharge function for periodic battery conditioning. The smaller charger that comes with the AA sets is ok but does seem a bit hit-miss in telling you whether a battery is charged or not. I seem to need to have pairs in there to get the correct light colour to show. The actual charging function is still fine though.

Ive used Ansmann chargers for many years now, I currently have five and none have ever played up, hiccuped or any such thing... Brilliant intelligent chargers.

I've always favoured a Nitecore D4 myself, which has a screen that tells you all the 'stuff' about each individual cell. Does everything from AAA, AA and 14500, 16340, 18650 all the way to 21700.

However, it seems XTAR are the favourite charger brand of enthusiasts.

The IKEA one is probably great for simply charging the common cells, though.
