    Alison Moyet: Voice

Want your heart melted to the smooth runny consitancy of greek yoghurt?

Get this CD. Her voice is just stunnning. I've listened to the whole album twice and it is just sooooo beautiful.

OK, it's not my normal diet of Maiden & AC/DC, but you see, when I was a lad, my mum lent me her Alison Moyet ALF album, and I understood music much better that day. And this is just stunning

Unfortunately I must agree with The Observer's quote : "flawless"

Alison Moyet is one of our finest voices, and this is no exception. Sadly I dont have a really good stereo for it at the moment, as al my stuff is in storage, but on headphones, this morning before work, it was simply stunning.

Anyone who has a love of jazz club voices (not jazz music really, this has direction and fluidity), the big open voice of a powerfull woman, and who has not heard Moyet, I strongly suggest you try.

I hope she becomes wealthy. Her voice is worthy of the stars and the sun.

    For fans 9/10
    For noobs.....5/10

For people who hate her....dont even go near it, you'll hate her more. For itis perfection on asilvery disk

I do have a copy myself. One of my fave female vocalists along with the late Kirsty McCall, Mica Paris & Beverly Knight. Her voice caresses my soul.

My brother knows someone who wrote one of her songs for that album, i'll have to ask him what one.

Yep, got that one as well. Tremendous voice. Seem to have bought a few CD's of female vocalists recently - Kathryn Williams, Erin Mckeown and buying that Kirsty Mccall anthology tomorrow.

as far as female vocalists go my interest ends at Christina Scabia and Tarja Trunken (sp?) tbh, while theres no disputing that she's got talent by the bucket load, her and many of the other female singers of her ilk all sound very similar too my ears.

On a slightly different note, fancy puttin down the moyet cd and grabbing a ticket to see maiden in leeds, day tickets only £60

slightly more expensive than when I last saw them at the Odeon in Edinburgh in about 1980.

Talking of decent female singers, I noticed that "Legends", a compilation of Evelyn 'Champagne' King's tracks came out this year. £8 for 42 tracks spanning 77-86. Good value if you like Disco / R&B.
On 3 CDs, 3 hours of music, lots of longish tracks, including the fabulous "Shame" at 6.5 mins.
I'd forgotten how much saxaphone they used in music back in those days. Bliss!

EDIT> Just downloaded "Voices" from iTunes (they charge £7.99 for either the 11 track or 12 track versions, LOL) & started listening.
It's good to hear a singer who doesn't shy away from the difficult parts. Makes it sound easy, in fact I reckon she has to work hard to avoid using her voice too powerfully.

if you get a chance to read the album cover it explains her thoughts behind the album. The lady who helped her with it all, and produced and arranged the album , Anne Dudley aimed for a clarity but with their own sound to it.

What they did was read from sheet music only, on 4 tracks they'd never heard, and MADE the nuances themselves, until they were happy with them.

In effect, they were not influenced by previous recordings at all on some of the tracks, which in my opinion gives Alison Moyet all the power to use her intense voice.

I've heard it 8 times now and I am smitten

Makes sense. What I said wasn't criticism. Most of the time her singing is quite subtle, but every now and again when she does sing loud there's just this awesome resonance. It sounds completely natural, not forced at all, unlike most other singers. They must hate her!

so far I've only heard it on small speakers & nice headphones...but I cant wait to hear it on large wooden enclosed speakers,on a nice amp.

Amazing voice and very very talented indeed. Her songs are a little on the cheesy side for me. Not for me. Whatever floats yer boat I guess.
