    Sony HD3 or HD5

Just ordered a HD3 and found out about the HD5, you think i should cancel my order and wait another month?

plus hd5 would cost about the same as a hd3.

    thanks for any advice.

You can preorder the HD5 from Amazon for £199.99 inc free delivery and vat. I would get the HD5 if only for the replacable battery.

Cancel your order, the HD5 is on paper at least a significant step up from the HD3.

Is there a release date on the HD5?

    EDIT:

This item is due to be released on May 20, 2005

Neither If sony would drop this atrac bull crap and build in mp3/wma/ogg etc then they could completeley take over the mp3 player market in 6 months. But they seem obsessed with proprietry formats the short sighted plonkers.

I think that the ship has sailed for Sony. The iPod is now what the Walkman used to be - the coolest gadget to own. If they'd released something similar to the HD5 a couple of years ago and it came with very good and DRM-free software then they might have been able to win.

The HD5 looks very decent - native mp3 support, playlists, good battery life, attractive design... It's just a shame that the PC-side software ruins the entire experience.

Oh god not again , get with the times already, Sony have supported MP3 in the past 3 generations of HD MP3 players, they no longer force you to use Atrac.

This player has native MP3 support

I own an HD3. The battery *IS* replacable, it's in the manual. Slight disassembly required but since when have two screws stopped the likes of tech-heads?

I see the battery latch as a great advantage on the HD5, i mean, nowadays after the iPod has happened, we see "replaceable battery" as a whole different term to what it use to be in the MD days. iPod changed the term to mean 'you're going to need to replace the battery at some point because it simply stops performing', but back in the day a replaceable battery simply meant you could carry a spare with you any time in case you ran out of charge etc. Which isnt really going to happen with the HD3.

But then again you might ask, how often do you spend 30+ hours listening to music away from a power source? Its just nice to have the option

U may need an extra battery for the ipods measily 12hrs, compared to the HD5s 40hrs (quoted)
