Do you think these budget Sony 5.1 speakers are any good?

Was going to go for the Aego:

    http://www.unbeatable.co.uk/CatalogueItem_6054.html

    Then saw these:

    http://www.unbeatable.co.uk/CatalogueItem_20445.html

Not sure what to think, I'd prefer the Sony name obviously, and i'll probably rarely use the 5.1 and run it as 2.1 most of the time. More for music and PS2 than anything else.

Just want decent, wholesome bass that i can feel but also hear, and a fairly good but not really audiophilic treble or anything. Just clear and quality.

I couldn't find any reviews so don't know what to do

Acoustic Energy have a far better reputation than Sony in the speaker market, their Evo range especially has won just about every award available. I haven't read much about either package, but if you were to go on the basis of how good their other stuff is, and you'd mainly use it as 2.1, then I'd go for the Aego over the Sony.

Acoustic Energy hifi speakers would take a huge crap all over any Sony speakers. Not sure about those sets, but based on reputation the AEs. Just like Alex said really

I nearly bought a set of AE Evo bookshelves but got my Monitor Audios instead

Nothing you'd consider audiophile, but they certainly kick with quality all the way to the amp's max.

Yes, they are sony , but surprisingly solid and they weigh about 20kg each, i'm completely satisfied with the sound (and yes, i have heard high-end audio gear at specialist shops and showrooms) but its just their size that is cool but inconvenient, for a student at least.

What price range are you looking at, i can recommend a great speaker for around 2K which you can use Tube electronics too. For a lower budget i would recommend a Rega R1.

PS: Please tell me if i am just blind and your looking more in the 100ish area.

    Heh, i'm a student, maybe when i'm 40 i'll look at the 2K+ speakers.

Under £100 would be good, but willing to go up to £200 if i find a pair i really like.

Problem is since i dont have the amp anymore i'd rather get one of those 2.1 systems that dont require one. Or else thats at least another £150 on top.

So the £80 Aegos are quite a steal

Well this may be a suprise to you, but i am only 21
I just had some chances (2 computer companys) that gave me quite a money boost which is now gone, but i am happy.

How about a 2.1 Klipsch Promedia?
