You must of had a duff PS2 as my own, my brothers a few mates and my uncles all off the bat out the box played any region DVD without fail. If you want the scart cables with the switches I am sure the bouncer site had them. I won't link the site as the post will get deleted as it also sells chips.Originally Posted by Tifosi

Maybe they ordered pre-chipped models and didnt know it
You can buy some commercial software disk that you put in your PS2, then remove (without rebooting) then put the DVD in. Removes the green screen. I forget what its called now though. You can also buy auto-switching cables too.
Region X is the software that comes to mind, i suppose it wouldn't be a bad way to go.
I'll see if i can find it cheap enough
Thats the one. They gave it away free once on one of the PS2 mags. Pick a copy up on the bay for around £2.
I think there is one that comes with a memory card 'key' so you don't have to keep using the disk too.
Personally, i would use an auto-swithing cable, but then the PS2 DVD playback is pretty poor and I would rather use a £19.99 DVD playe anyway. But as you say, you don't want that.
I have a £40 dvd player downstairs but i still prefer watching it on the PS2, the menus are better and since i've always navigated DVDs with the dualshock anything else feels strange
And one less box under the tv is always good
Are you sure the DVD region X software actually removes the green screen properly? Or does it just switch ouput to Scart through an RGB cable?
Not sure, but think it does.
There are two i know of - Blaze Region X and Datel Region X, check thier sites.
