    Freeview questions?

What is the best Freeview box around (picture quality, reception, ease of use etc) for a decent price? It needs 2 scart sockets (needs to connect to vcr, dvd and tv) - its for my parents so it needs to be easy to use, cheap and not look 'blingy'

Also I have heard that with freeview you cannot record one channel and watch another. Is this true? If so are there any boxes that get around this somehow? (Cos that is crap ( )

Could it be possible to record a digital channel and watch the other analogue channel to get round this?

    Thanks peeps

There's no particular hierachy to Freeview boxes - the more you spend the better you'll get.

The limitation with recording is that your VCR/DVD-R will be recording the output of the Freeview box and so if you change the channel that'll change the output. If you can find a Freeview box with dual tuners that would bypass the problem but otherwise you're out of luck I'm afraid. You can however watch an analogue channel and tape a digital one, or vice-versa.

I have a Sagem PVR6240T which has 2 tuners + HDD so you can watch one channel while you record another its very easy to use I have it hooked up to a DVD Recorder so if anything I record is worth keeping I just copy to DVD

This site is a good source of information for Freeview

The only way around is two boxes, which if you dont want the HDD might be cheaper than sootys sugestion. I have a panasonic box in my room, which works very well even tho its a few years old now, (way better than my bro's goodmans, dont get one of them what ever you do!!). And a samsung TV with a good built in tuner, nice guide but only now and next. I think the Tompson ones are good suposedly. But the only difrence in them is the qality of the OSD.

I got a phillips one not that long ago and it has 2 scart sockets.
Its worked so far, got it from currys for £60, I know its over the odds but I needed it asap...
It might be a bit complicated but why don't u get a PCI freeview card and a video capture card... Would be good for you to use but not for the parents.
