BBC Photographer of the Year 2005

Is anyone entering this? The format's simple, enter up to 6 photos for each theme, which are narrowed down to 12 by a panel of judges and then voted on by the public on the website. The theme currently running is 'Environment' and the upcoming theme is 'spaces'. Link is:

    http://newsvote.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/4652389.stm

You can submit any photos taken at any time, just choose 6 good ones from your collection! I think a lot of you should give it a go, you'd be amazed at how hard it is to choose only 6, even with a limited selection to choose from. Here's my submissions for 'environment', let's see yours!

    Splendid pictures there, well done...
    BUT
...personally I will not enter any BBC run photographic competition and the reason why is once they have your picture they can do what they want with it and you get Nothing. sweet FA, zip, nada, zero...so basically they've found a clever way to get loads of people to send pictures in but unlike a picture agency that pays the photographer each time the image is used - 50% for the agency, 50% for photographer say - the BBC get 100%, you get NOTHING. there's been a substantial amount of grumbling over the t&c's the bbc use with this one (in amateur photographer etc), they are at liberty to make money from your image by selling it on to clients as stock photos yet you see none of it. so on prinicple I'm afraid the bbc don't get any of my images for any of their 'competitions' (read: cheapest way to build up your picture library). so, screw you for a tv licence and make more money out of your effort but give you nothing for it. nice that...can tell the government ethos has seeped into the bbc too now. they may change t&c's but until then they won't get any of my hard earned images!

yes the wildlife photoggrapher of the year pcitures are simply stunning and something I personally would love to enter. needs lots of patience and dedication but I reckon its worth it for the results you can achieve. and digital is becoming popular now they're accepting entries that way - the last winner won with a canon D30...an amazing picture it was too.
