7.1 for my TV

I got some 7.1 speakers today, which I use for my computer (Creative T7900).

However the input connections is three wires which fit into my soundcard (Creative Audigy 2 ZS). Anyway, I'm wondering what cable(s) I need to purchase so I could use it for my TV? My freeview box has the two left and right connections (white and red), and the TV has a connection for headphones.

What do you suggest I need to get?

Thought has just come to me.. if I got one of those double ended cables with the same end (the ones that you use for microphones/headphones etc), I could plug that into the side of the volume control and do it that way? Would I get full 7.1 that way or not?

Terrestrial and freeview isnt broadcast in 7.1

You wont get 7.1 anyway. The only way you might stand a chance is if you get something with a 5.1 output, but i dont know if those speakers upmix 5->7, i know mine do. Youre stuck with stereo im afraid, although i imagine it will be 2.1

Another way would be to run it through your pc and use that to upmix. Or grab one of those creative digital box efforts.

What the £80 decoder?, pfft.

I have the 5-7 upmix, and 6-7 upmix (what do they actually do? - i notice my side speakers sound go a bit crappy using them).

If youre feeding it 5 or 6 channel sound it will upmix it to 7 channels, it sounds like arse if you have 7.1 going in though.

7.1 sounds OK on the computer, with my old 5.1 I connected it to the TV and it sounded fine (not full 3D surround but still clear).

Thats your puppy. Maplins is probably cheaper, should be about 3 quid unless you want a really really long one.

Yeah, didn't plan on getting that one... just was making sure that was the correct one.

You won't get surround sound if you're upmixing from 2 to 7.1... Unless the speakers have pro-logic decoding. So having voices coming out of everywhere will sound terrible.
