    Unhappy R.I.P. Denon UD-M30

So after four years of faithful service my UD-M30 CD receiver decides to stop ejecting CDs. I will get a quote for a repair when I go home over easter, but I'm really expecting the repair cost to be too much in relation to what the unit is worth, so I'm looking around for other options.

I bought this before I was a poor student, and now I've become one, so money isn't around in huge amounts. Needless to say, I don't want to buy a piece of crap. I have no problem with buying Denon again, but the new M35 range look . . well, crap compared to the mirrored front of the M30 series.

I did consider just buying an amp, but I'd really like the option to chuck a CD in now and then, so I'm looking at receivers in the same kind of form-factor as this denon. I don't really want to go over £200, and I don't need speakers.

    Thanks

Gutted, i have that reveiver in my bedroom. Had it for 4 years without a problem. Great Mini system, totally unbeatable in it's price bracket and won loads of awards (BTW, i upgraded my speakers to some Kef Cresta 1's, which were abount the same size but a fair bit better than the Mission made ones). Gtreat system (nasty looking remote mind) Don't you have insurance?

You might be lucky with the repair. It depends whats exactly wrong, but if not I would seriously consider getting a second hand one or an UD-M31 (slightly updated version). The DM35 is meant to be pretty good though i thought, has DAB and MP3 CD playback now too (£250 ex speakers i have seen it). There is also the and MD33 and DM50, but i don't know anything about than really. Hitach and TEAC also do simular types of system worth looking at.

But of course now would be the ideal time to get a small amp and a Squeezebox 3. Go on, you know you want to

But what small amps exist? I don't have the space for something the size of a C320BEE or anything like that.

Edit: Screw me thinking of buying an amp, the amp on this works fine, it's just the CD drawer that won't eject. This is a uni room so a Squeezebox is pointless. I really would want the CD functionality back.

And adding a CD player to this isn't an option, I don't want a half working system. Call me weird, but I'd rather get this repaired than just adding a seperate CD player.

I had two UD-M31s that developed faults - the first didn't output sound at the correct volume and the second wouldn't play CDs. First time round the shop I bought it from offered a straight swap, but the second time they didn't have any M31s and said it would take about 6 weeks to repair so I decided to part exchange it for a new TEAC CR-H250, which has been brilliant so far. CD playback might be slightly (and I am being very picky here) inferior to the M31, but the DAB more than makes up for that. As I said I bought it new for £210, so if you look around a bit you should be able to find one for under £200.
