Framing a picture

Before I upload anything I want to know how to put a frame around my pictures to set the picture off. Does anybody know of any good programs I can used? I'm using Mac OS X. I do also have photoshop though so if anyone has a guide that would be great.

There are many, many ways to do this, and everyone will have their own favourite way.

Here's how I do it, though :

Image > Canvas Size > Make sure "relative" is ticked, and "pixels" is selected > enter width of border you want into the two boxes (stick to even numbers) > select colour at bottom > ok

ive got a small photoshop action i amde that will do this if you want it. it works well on 5-800 pix images.

comes out like this



size sometimes varies, but looks the similar.

whats the processes of the action noah? i've never really used frames but a gentle one like yours isn't too bad.

duplicate background > canvas size increase by 1 pixel - black > canvas size increase buy 10-20% - white > layer styles - drop shadow (fiddle with distance etc) > opacity 75% > flatten.

just seems to give a subtle lift to pics.

I just ctrl-a and then stroke 5px of white or black depending on the shot.

does the trick, and I never usually lose anything from the outer 5 pixels.


I used to use the method Hoodi mentioned but that gets annoying if you already reduced the canvas at some point as it wont border it, it just reveals the image you previously cropped off.
