Hi folks! Im getting a nice hifi ive decided - want something with a very balanced and warm sound but plenty of bass - not too muddy though - seems these are quite highly reguarded speakers - Kef iQ9 - has anyone heard them? What amps have you heard driving them???

B&W are good for the price but I think they're a little overrated.

I can't be of any help with your specific query as I've not heard those particular Kef's. I do know a fair bit about hi-fi though so I hope I can be of some help

Are you into hi-fi at the mo or is this your first venture ? Are the speakers purely for music or will they be getting called into AV duty ? Do you have any idea of the electronics you're gonna partner them with ?

The main thing is that you really must demo them with some of the music you listen to regularly. I've known many people to go out to buy with their heart set on something only to be blown away by something else the retailer suggested.

The iQ9's are highly regarded in the UK AV mags but so are a lot of others at that price point. There's B&W, Quad and Monitor Audio amongst many others. If you do go for a demo any retailer worth their salt will have a few alternatives ready to suggest and set up.

One other thing, it's well worth buying hi-fi from a decent dealer and paying a bit more for it than you'd get it for off the web. The service and recommendations they can offer SHOULD make it worth the premium.

    Good luck and happy demo'ing

Best thing you can is to set a buget, then get yourself down to a local hifi dealer and see what they have to offer, then see what your ears prefer.
Think of it this way, it's like buying a car with out a test drive.

Thanks guys - im a bit of a newb when it comes to hifi gear - tbh the reason i like the look of the kef iq9's is just that - the way they look - i think they look very nice pieces of kit - and the reviews ive read do seem to suggest they nice speakers In terms of an amp - hmmm, more tricky - a couple of places have partnered these with Roksan Kandy amps - dont know much about these Its mainly to listen to music through, although i do like the idea that it could become part of a very nice surround sound setup

kandys are pretty nice amps, but imo, its worth looking at the linn gear, their entry level floor standers sound absolutely unbeliveable when biamped.

very good bit of advice, take a cd with you and try loads out before u buy as its 90% subjective and just buyin what, what hifi recommends is not good a idea not that im sayin there not a really good mag but its all down to personal taste and music pref
