    Nikon D50 and Lens

    Hi Everyone,

I'm going to buy my first Digital SLR now that I'm finding my little compact a bit too limited and after looking at the Canon 305D and Nikon D50 I think I have decied on the D50 mainly because of the price.

The question now is do I get the kit with the 18-55MM Lens or just buy the boady and get a lens with a better zoom??

Is the 18-55mm Lens in the it any good?

    Thanks in advance!

Seeing as you are buying the D50 kit for it's price, the kit lens is probably the best you can afford. There is only a £70 difference between the kit and the body only, and that won't buy much of a lens, so the kit one is almost certainly the best choice.

i'd buy it body only from jessops using this SAVE-0250 £20 off voucher making it £310 and then get a decent lens like the 18-70 or just start off with the kit version for £376 using the above voucher as the kit lens will sell easily on ebay for more the you've effectevly paid

Is it just me? Or have Jessops put up the price of the Nikon D50 in black with lens, to £419? The big yellow banner still says £398 so you should still be able to get it at that price if you go into the store... but talk about annoying, especially when I was thinking about buying it earlier today!

Its a great camera, I don't think I'm gonna sell mine now. I just need to find some time to take some good pics and I will get back into the swing of things again.

The "offer" was only meant to be for the bank holiday weekend but got extended (shops have no end date yet, or at least York don't). I asked how long the offer was likely to last and pointed out that PC World (over the road) and Amazon have the same kit at under £400 and the guy said that if PC World & Amazon were doing it at that price then the odds were it wouldn't go back up at all.

I fricking love my D50, it awesome, some of the best photographs I've ever taken. Its just superb, the picture quality is fantastic and its great for someone like me who likes to fiddle with all the settings as you can take so many shots, see how they affect it and delete all the crap ones. Still using film for important stuff though.

Just bought a D50 with lens from Digital First for 359.95 with free shipping.

Its factory reconditioned but comes with a full years warranty

Received it today -sadly forgot to order a SD card to play with it - but it looks nice anyway

You can muck about with the frame buffer though, even if you don't have a card yet. as for 350D/D50... difficult. I'm definately a Nikon man, have lots of Nikon lenses and other bits an pieces so the D50 was the obvious choice. My friend, a staunch Canon defender, hsa the 350D and really there is nothing in it. The pictures are the same quality and they have the same settings etc. The only differences are niggles really. Go for the one with the best price and the layout which appeals to you.
