Squeezeboxes and Nas

Will a squeeze box pull files off a nas box? or does it need a proper machine to get files from?

Also, im relatively out of the loop on stuff like that, are squeezeboxes still the daddy? Is there an equivalent video device? And before anyone says 360, until its silent i arent interested.

I havent used a squeezebox with a nas but it requires its own interface to be running on a PC, so I guess you need a live PC to run it.

There is a new video streming box, it;s red and available mainstream but I can'y for the life of me remember what its called

Yes, you can use a Squeezebox with a NAS, without using a PC.

If you are thinking of buying a Squeezebox, i can honestly tell you that it is one of the best products i have bought in my entire life. They are simply stunning. Nothing else competes, appart from maybe a Sono's. But i would still go for a SB3, even if the Sono's was no so expensive.

Aye, I'm gonna be buying an SB3 sometime shortly (borrowing an SB1 atm) and hopefully a seperate amplifier to run it through so I'm not having to run it thruogh my home cinema amp

The video devices out there aren't as good as the audio only functions fo the Squeezebox. you are usually looking at UPNP or some other server for making the video availoable.

As for running Slimserver on a NAS box: i have a 500gig Qnap TS-101. very good unit. Amazingly well built (solid aluminium case).

There are un-official ways to get SlimServer on a NAS though. MAny of them can be hacked to alloy the install of Perl and SS. The Synology DiskStation from Scan is one. Along with linksys and buffalo boxes.
