Question about HDMI and DVI w/HDCP

I was just wondering about DVI w/HDCP.

As I understand it HDMI is just DVI w/HDCP but with audio built in. Now what I was wondering is if for example I want to connect a HD-DVD drive to a LCD with DVI w/HDCP, how does the audio workout - i.e. is the audio not encrypted and therefore just use standard audio cables?

    thanks

IIRC DVI doesnt trasnmit an audio signal so it will be up to you to connect the audio using other means, i.e. Phono, Digital Coax, TOSLink etc...

I believe HDCP can also apply to the audio stream. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDCP for more information.

Then what do you do for the audio if its protected? Where can it go to be decrypted?

indeed, thats why i went for the pioneer ax4, as it has the ability to play the HDCP protected audio.

But some are saying that hollywood might of woken up to the stupidity of such things by then, i doubt it however.

Audio is always a strange one, because most hifi enthusaists are morons. Its a fact they don't understand basic electronics, this is why they spend soo much money on a cable for coax digital audio (SPDIF) without realising that it has no effect on jitter (which again they don't understand).

But as such there is much debate as to if these people with lots of money, and a media that prolipherates such bollocks would embrace protection on their audio.
