Ben Kingsley. He can do everything from the greatest pacifist of all time (Ghandi) to the scariest gangster I have ever witnessed (Sexy Beast).

Samuel. L. Jackson as he has great diversity and range. he really puts emotion into each role he plays, gets into the character if you get me, which enhances the film past purely acting a character.
anyone who has seen 187 will most likely agree with me on this. damn good film, very powerful acting. peace.

if war is the answer, then we are asking the wrong question

Malcolm McDowell is my favourite actor. Despite him being in a few dire films (haven't all actors, though?), many of his performances portray a serious amount of intensity, understanding of not just the character, but himself, and an ability to make the audience love him - whether he is insane, evil, good or an absolute poohead.

    Yes

Too close to call a winner.

I would defo add Paul Newman (and a few others) to the list. Newman specifically for classics like Cool Hand Luke, the Hustler, Hud, the Sting, Butch Cassiday etc and at least another twenty films.

I'd say one of the best actors around right now is Johnny Depp, but as an all time great, either Hanks or De Niro.

    Tom Hanks, definately!!!

He's been a war hero (several times), a spaceman, a gangster, a cop with a dog, a cop chasing a fraudster, a numbnutts who ran for 3 years, a kid in a man's body, an idiot who bought a house that fell apart, an executioner (sort of - The Green Mile) and about a thousand other briiliant chars in brilliant films!

Samuel L Jackson comes a very close second though!

Hanks was also a distraught neighbour (The 'burbs) and a lost man (Castaway)
