    digital photo frame suggestions

Looking for good digital photo frame at least 7"(the screen not the surround).

There are loads on the market but I'm looking for one that's got a really good display and is backlit(don't know if they all are or not).

    Suggestions.

Budget - am looking for vfm so willing to pay more for better quality. Have seen some no name ones in currys for £99.99 so looking around that price tag but will go up to £200 for good quality.
I do know everything, just not all at once. It's a virtual memory problem.

Don't buy a cheap one, especially if you don't get a look at it first. I work in Jessops and our 7" digital photo frame is around £90 and its dire.

There are some nice ones in John Lewis by Philips - they go from £149 for a 7" that has a good screen, but not such a good frame, to £199 for a really nice 9" Philips one that has a wood-appearance frame. All of the screens were much better quality (resolution) than other more generic 5-7" digital photo frames that I've seen.

    This is the £149 7" one: http://tinyurl.com/vyjzv

And this is the £199 9" one: http://tinyurl.com/v57ur (this was £189 in my local store)

They also had another 9" Philips one in the store in Cambridge, that isn't on the JL website, that had a more adjustable stand on the back, and a slightly better-looking wood appearance frame, that was £199 in store. It was this one (linky to Philips site: http://tinyurl.com/y2g5hr )

I'd second that advice - you've really got to see a screen switched on, and have a play through the menu system, to make sure that the frame is decent. It's not worth it if the LCD is a low resolution (e.g. only 320x240), or the backlight is poor - the pictures just look bad. I'd look for LCDs with at least 680x480 or 720x480.

Found one on offer at dabs. It's a 9" philips one for £149, cheapest I've seen anywhere. Should get it tomorrow so we'll see what it's like.

I'm having a bad time trying to get my 7" Philips Photo Frame to work on XP Media Center Edition. Problem appears to be missing drivers. Would you mind telling me the driver info (should be somewhere under the XP Device Manager): name of driver, issuer, etc.?

My longer rant on this subject is at www%digitalmediathoughts%com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=11641 (replace % with .) if you're wondering why I'm asking. Thanks.

Quite true most 7'' frames have very low res and pictures suck.

Digital picture frame prices are coming down, you can pick a high resolution large screen at reasonable price

Dragging up an old(ish) thread here, but what are peoples oppinions on these things now?

I'm guessing they have moved on a lot over the past 6 months and have come down in proce too.

I'm looking at getting one for my cousins 21st. Scan have quite a few, ranging from £47 to £118. The Krystal ones sound the most interesting.

Has anyone actually used them? what is the screen like? what about the control and interface?

the 7" one at ~£60 is what i've been looking at:
    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=314633

and i'd probably get a big memory card to go along with it.

But there is a 10.4" that look good as well:
    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=545855

More expensive obviously, but would the larger screen be worth it?

    thanks for any pointers.

I have heard that a lot of them have the wrong aspect ratio or resolution for photos so images become distorted unless they are first edited using a PC.

In my opinion this would be a major flaw as iteally defeats the whole idea of whipping an SD out of the camera and putting it straight into the Photoframe.

Never noticed this problem on the Philips frame I have. Pictures always look great to me.

    Re: digital photo frame suggestions

I'm considering getting one and would like to know what the timing options are for the slideshows.
One message here mentions 5 seconds and if none of them can handle a slower change than that I won't bother.
I was hoping to have the image change once an hour or even longer.
Are there any out there that can do this? This information is not on most of the sales sites.

    Re: digital photo frame suggestions

Having looked further into this I've decided against getting one. Powering them is either unsightly or inconvenient and I'd have to pay the top money to get one with a res of 1024 x 768.

My pc is in the living room at the moment and this lovely 24" widescreen monitor at a res of 1920 x 1200 may just as well be used for the purpose. I have discovered that if you set the screensaver to browse through a folder of images on your drive and then click the Preview button and walk away it goes on until you return to stop it. The pc doesn't shut down during this period so this means I won't have to mess around with those settings at all. So I'm configuring images for that and every 3 mins (max setting) a new picture will display. I have XP Pro but I'm sure Vista would also do this.

Gonna wait until the photo frames have moved on a bit.

Philips has some nice photo frames, but whatever brand it is I think it's still pretty expensive. Anyone know where I can get the best deals online?
