    Question Corsair CM2X1024-8500C5D

    Hi

I wonder if any one can help me please I have 4 of these Corsair CM2X1024-8500C5D that I have for a new build using a gigabyte ga-p35-ds3r rev2 mother board plus a Q6600 2.4 CPU/500Gig WD caviar HDD/NX8600GTS Pci express x16/550watt PSU
OS is Vista Premium 64Bit version

The problem I have is that as soon as I try to boot with all the DDR2 slots filled (x4) I get an error message that a DLL file is missing or it just hangs yet with just 2x it boots fine & I can find nothing missing with BIOS set to default

The memory support list on gigabyte,s website is a bit vague saying "up to 8 Gig" but lists only 1 Gig & 512Mb sticks in the listing in 2,s & 4,s....there tech help line is of limited use saying "yes it should work with 4 slots filled" but don't know why it wont

Any ideas....I would be most grateful

    Lee Stevens

With 4 modules you need extra voltage to the memory controller. Find your MCH voltage aka NB or northbridge and raise the voltage up slowly in small increments from stock and see if you can get it stable.

    Re: Corsair CM2X1024-8500C5D

    Hi Yellowbeard,
I wondered if it would be you, thanks for your reply mate I think I have found how to adjust the voltage with the M.I.T section of BIOS (.1 of a volt at a time , please let me know if I am digging in the right place) but I cant find how much voltage it has at the moment or the timing

Looking forward to hearing from you

    Kind regards

    Re: Corsair CM2X1024-8500C5D

The timings will be in a different section. You'll just have to dig for them or hopefully a fellow Gigabyte user can give you more accurate info.

As for the voltage, Gigabyte starts at a default of 1.8v. So, +.1 is 1.9v, +.2v is 2.0v, etc. You'll need +.3v or +.4v for that memory depending on the revision.

    Re: Corsair CM2X1024-8500C5D

    Hi Yellowbeard,
Thanks for that I'll give it a go, meanwhile I downloaded a gizmo called CPU-Z that shows my RAM running AT 533Mhz (I set out a copy below) will it go up to 1066Mhz when I increase the voltage only it seams a big jump in one go?

Thanks for your help with this mate I really appreciate it

    Kind regards

    Lee Stevens

ps The copy of CPU-Z report is to long to send so I hope I have saved all the relevant bits for you

533mhz is correct and is the actual speed for PC1066 memory. It is called dual data rate because it transfers data 2 times per clock cycle for a data rate of 1066 (533 x 2).

    Re: Corsair CM2X1024-8500C5D

    Hi Yellowbeard,
Sorry for the delay in writing, My PC has become unstable but it will now boot every time with all 4 RAM slots filled (MCH at+ .3Volts) this is maximum setting in MIT all other settings are optimal/default

A blue screen hardware warning followed by "windows encountered a problem and was shut down" when this happens & still happens when I return the PC to its previous spec

I have run the windows memtest in extended with the result "windows has detected a hardware or memory fault" I have tried different combos IE two sticks at a time having borrowed another two sticks from a friend of mine with the same results & then tried all the combos at the lower voltage settings still getting the same results so I don't think it,s a memory problem

Would windows pick this up as a memory fault if it was the memory controller or fault on the mother board of some sort? as this is not what I would call a "high end board" I would not be surprised if it was the root of this problem also during this test will it test memory on the graphics card?

I look forward to your thoughts

    Kind regards

    Lee Stevens

It's difficult to tell about that Windows memory test and I always rely on Memtest. Just for testing, try the 4 modules at DDR800 instead of 1066. It may be that your board simply cannot run 4 up at 1066.

    Re: Corsair CM2X1024-8500C5D

    Hi Yellowbeard,

You were spot on with that mate all 4 running at 800Mhz no probs so far & plays COD4 brilliantly (apart from me getting shot most of the time that is) with no fault or error messages

I just cant see if Gigabyte got it wrong or I did looking at the spec it should run them at 1066Mhz but at least I now have a PC that wont make me want to shout at it now lol

Thanks for all your help mate I really appreciate it

    Kind regards

    Lee Stevens

PS If you were going to build a game PC with Sli in mind what main board would you use ?? & would you put 2 or 3 graphics cards in??

If you care to take the time, it may be tedious but you can try your OC and work up in small increments. You may not make 1006 but you can see how far you can go.

just wanted to post my idea here. Contact gigabyte again and complain that it isnt working. False advertising comes to mind with this, and get a different board as they have to get you a refund/replacement.

And it shows that support here is a great as usual.

My first guess is that they will tell you what every other MOBO company will. They do not guarantee 4 x modules at 1066. But, checking with them is a good idea. If nothing else, they may have a tweak or beta bios for you.

    Re: Corsair CM2X1024-8500C5D

    Hi Yellowbeard,
I think I will just enjoy not pulling my hair out for a while before I try overclocking this lot thanks but I will be giving that a go when I get some spare time

I did try Gibabyte but got the impression I was talking to someone who did not know or care & was told if I chose to use the Q flash facility on this MOBO it would invalidate my guarantee, so I then had to decide to find another way to get it to work or rip it out and send it back with a possible 6 week wait or even buy a replacement & then send the old one back

Thats why I asked what MOBO you would go for as I may yet do the latter

Thanks again for all your help mate it,s been a pleasure

    Kind regards

As a memory company guy, I don't make MOBO recommendations. We have to stay on neutral ground with all of them. Flashing the bios should be safe if you want to try it at some point. Just make sure you do it with EVERYTHING at setup defaults and do it from DOS with a floppy or USB key.
