overclocking and DDR3 ram settings qith Q8200

    hi

i have the following and wondered if i can overclock it.

    Gigabyte P35C DS3R mobo bios F11
    Quad core Q8200 processor
    4 gig of corsair XMS3 DDR3 1333mhz ram.

it won't get the processor above 2333 which is stock speeds.

my previous ram was 4 gig of OCZ gold DDR2 ram and i had that stable at 2800mhz.

will this ram not go overclocked? if so, what settings can i get this to and do i need to scare myself and touch the voltage settings??

This memory is not going to limit your CPU OC in any way unless you are trying to run the memory at some frequency way above DDR1333. What FSB are trying to run and what memory frequency are you setting in the BIOS?

at present which seems stable is a FSB of 375 to give 2.62ghz processor speed. 12% o/c i believe. on bios F12E now. if i go to 380-390 it fails and resets.

i have upped the voltage by +0.1 on fsb and ddr3.

    cpuz says FSB:dram is 1:2
    dram frequency is 750mhz
    all the latencys are 10-10-10-25.

not touched anything else on bios apart from fsb and voltage.

not sure what this cpu and ram will do or what settings i should try.

Have you increased the Vcore to the CPU? You can't OC it to the settings you are trying at stock voltage. Based on what you have posted, you are not even at the stock frequency of the memory yet so, unless you have a defective module, the memory is not holding you back.

no i havent touched that. it's at 1.23 volts at present, whats safe to increase that to?

whats the stock frequency of the ram then, 1333mhz i am assuming?

how do i alter the frequency of the ram then?

sorry for sounding thick. not sure on all the o/cing stuff as bit scared ill blow it all up lol.

You'll need to unhide the advance BIOS settings and manually set the timings and voltage to the rated settings for your memory kit.

    Find them here: http://www.corsairmemory.com/products/xms_home.aspx

As I noted above, if you are getting unstable before you even hit the stock speed of the memory, you'll need to adjust either the memory controller voltage and/or your CPU voltage if you are OCing the FSB.

can you not make the ram unlinked like with ddr2? ive managed a 40% oc , but had to unlink my ram so that the speed stayed at its limit
