Reusing TRUE for Sandy Bridge?

Hi all,

finally thinking about retiring my venerable Q6600 build and replacing it with an i5 2500k setup. I'm doing the pricing up, and was wondering about the cooler. I currently use a Thermalright Ultra Extreme 120.

I've seen that they do a bolt through kit that can make this usable for 1156 - which I believe has the same mounting holes as 1155, but an wondering if it will be suitable, especially if I plan on modest overclocking (Circa 4.5 ghz give or take).

I'm thinking that it should be as it was Sandy bridge chips run cooler than the Q6600 I have, but not sure how much extra heat is generated via OC.

Any opinions, or should I plump for another, newer cooler?

should be fine if it has the mountings mate. I was using my old hyper 212+ initially on my 2500k @ 4.5 and it kept it cooler than it did my phenom x6.

the current crop of cpu's produce less heat than the older ones i think

Cheers Dan, thats my thinking anyway. The TRUE was a good piece of kit back in the day, so should still do a decent job. Now just have to man up and actually get the new rig

OT, but what did you move from before you went i5? I'm thinking that there is going to be a decent difference in games, I'm 99% sure that my CPU is holding back my 5850 CF...

The Termalright cooler will be more than adequate these CPU's run cool anyway compared.

Cheers Paul. I was looking to get this from your good selves, but was wondering if you are able to get the Revision B version that is mentioned on the american Thermalright site?

I've read that this version is a lot simpler to use as it uses a Tbar not scissors. but am having trouble finding it? Apparently you used to sell it, I found an old thread on Hexus talking about it.

I can ask about the Rev B but I do not think I can get an answer today as i have to speak to Thermalright direct.

That would be great. Whenever is convenient for you really. I've decided mobo/cpu so just thinking about other bits really before I buy it all. But any information would be good.
