AMD is pretty good for overclock. Bulldozer got some crazy overclock results. Still base performance isn't that hot.

    Re: amd or intel

I've been using amd pretty much all my life, last was 1090T, then when i got i5K i was pretty amazed, how much snappier system has become. Its more expensive - YES but, it takes less W's and performs better. Overtime price will even out becouse amd hasnt got same performance and takes more power. Intel i say

    Re: amd or intel

I did a build for my mate last year using a 95W Phenom II X6 1045T and the most intensive purpose he is using it for is running some software he needs for his research. We did have a look through some benchmarks, and concluded that the Phenom II X6 in terms of throughput was as good or better than Core i5 CPUs which cost 40% to 50% more, and in situations where the Phenom II X6 was slower the Core i5 was still poorer value. Since he does not overclock,we had a look at some ATX motherboards and I was suprised how expensive the H67 motherboards were when compared to the 970 one. Under Windows and especially Linux it seems very quick.

I think the i3 was a good suggestion for cpu but if you end up getting an amd motherboard then you can always get a 955 instead as it should cost a bit less and give the same sort of performance.

So many choices, go AMD for budget and Intel for performance.

    Re: amd or intel

Hi "im not to worried about the graphic card because i can upgrade it later thank you"

I'd think about not buying your PC now - if you're not going to upgrade your graphics card now then why are you buying all these components. Put better, if you know you need to upgrade your cpu and your gpu then you should be doing it at the same time. I know its hard to wait but if you buy your cpu now without upgrading your gpu you really won;t see the full benefit of the system. Also, if you need a new gpu then by waiting until you can afford both you won;t have shelled out for a cpu that is being under used as soon as you put it in your pc.

If you buy Windows 7 soon ask the vendor if you'll get a free upgrade to windows 8 - as its due for release soon

A dual core Intel is better for gaming than a quad core AMD CPU.

    Re: amd or intel

OP if gaming is the only intention of your rig, either will be fine. < £100 you will be looking at I3, Phenom II or A8. I think APU (no discrete graphics needed) is ok for casual gaming.

Not entirely true! If you're talking about first gen amd quad cores then yes that can be the case. But otherwise - deffinitely not!

    And that's wrong as well.

Dual core intel is better then a quad core AMD - in certain games/tasks.

A blanket statement in either direction is wrong, you have to take each case on an app-by-app basis.

Yeh that last sentence is pretty much what I'm saying also. It's not as simple as one being better than the other.
