Should I get the FX 8150 version with water cooler? Overclocking ability?

I could only overclock the FX 8120 8 core from 3.1 to 3.8 Ghz with a £30 motherboard.

The FX 8150 has an 8 core 3.6 Ghz CPU. I'm doing video restoration and I need every bit of Ghz I can get. What speed do you think I could overclock it to if I bought a decent 3 star scan motherboard such as the Gigabyte Motherboard GA-990FXA-UD3?

Should I get the stock FX 8150 or the one that comes with a water cooler?

Does the water cooler make the CPU less noisy or is it just there to lower the temperature for the purpose of overclocking more?

AMD CPUs tend to overclock better if temperatures are lower. The motherboard you linked to is for Intel CPUs. As in the other thread I suggested this motherboard:

    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/gigab...-%28x16%29-atx

It seems even with an FX8120,you can hit a decent overclock with the motherboard:

Looking at this review, the cooler is basically an Asetek Kuhler 920:

This cooler is £68 alone on Scan, meaning the bundle saves you around £16.

However, the FX8350 should be at least 15% faster for video encoding, perhaps more IMHO.

Just wondering if I should get the Gigabyte Motherboard GA-990FXA-UD3 which has 3 stars instead of the Gigabyte GA-990FXA-D3 Motherboard that you suggested which is 2 stars? What's the difference between them?

The GA-990FXA-UD3 has a better VRM section which is actually cooled.
