    Using Intel 'T' model CPU's

    Hi,

I am thinking of using a 'T' – Power-optimized (ultra low power with 35-45W TDP) model CPU, such as the Intel i3 4330T in my next mini-itx system which has a lower TDP than some of the higher performance models.

The system will not be used for heavy gaming, or overclocking, but as it will only be powered by an internal 160w supply, low power requirements are obviously an important consideration.

Has anyone any experience of these, or similar models please?... oh, and before anyone mentions it, I do want to stick with Intel rather than AMD!

My current choice of motherboard is for an Asus 81i-Plus if that makes any difference.

    Thanks!

In terms of energy saving it will take quite a while to break even on the extra cost (generally the power efficient versions are either more expensive, or far slower than the equivalent standard ones). They often don't have as good intergrated graphics as the standard CPUs so check that if you need it.

Of course if its purely a PSU requirement then go for it. 160w PSU ain't much to play with.

Thanks, I will certainly check out the points you mention.

The object of the exercise is purely to reduce the power requirements though, rather than purely energy saving, as it will certainly cost more initially anyway.

They don't seem to be that common here in the UK either, although I have managed to track down a couple of reliable sellers.
