    CPU Core Temps?

I've just built a new system using the FX 6300... Here's the problem, as i enter the BIOS i notice my CPU core temps are jumping about all over the place?

This is the readout from the BIOS screen,

IDLE: 26C, 30C, 33C and then to 30C, 26C, 32C - These readings are within a split second of each other.

The system temp stays consistent, 26/27C.

    Any ideas?

Most likely sensor noise, but could also be micro-powering up and down of cores.

What are the temperatures when doing a normal high-load task for eg. encoding?

    Re: CPU Core Temps?

I've not tried to install any OS as yet, only within the hour finished the build. I'm currently sat in the BIOS screen trying to find out why my previous system (X4 955) the core temp would stay consistent?

    Re: CPU Core Temps?

Things are settling down, seems to sit idle at 26C, then for a brief second, jump to 33C, 29C and back to 26C?

Is it the same motherboard and CPU? If not, then the sensors and power gating behaviour will likely be different. Check the temps once you've installed an OS and doing your usual benchmarking/checks.

No, this is a new system setup from the previous. Seems to sit idle at 27C, then for a brief second jump to 33C, 29C, back to 27C now. All at idle.

    So you can't compare it.

Check the temps once you've installed an OS and doing your usual benchmarking/checks.

    Re: CPU Core Temps?

Okay, i'll give this a try now and hopefully it's not an issue. I've been reading that the FX line of processors have sensor issues at idle? Is this correct?

    Re: CPU Core Temps?

With the magic of google, i found this very useful post that has answered my question...

    http://www.overclock.net/t/1455767/a...perature-issue

Quote taken from the link above:

    I also had the 8120 b4 I upgraded to my 8350.
to address the temp spikes...that is just AMD Turbo Boost, you can turn this off in the bios easily. this should level out your temperature jumps. As for your higher temps, I have found through the same trial and error you are going through with that setup. In the end quality Tim "thermal compound makes a huge difference. Not to mention the conductive vs non conductive compound differences.
I hope you can work this out and look forward to seeing your results.
If you have any other questions I'd be happy to answer as best I can.
    P.S.
The FX chips run seriously hot to begin with so I installed a closed loop NZXT Kraken x60 240mm rad and never looked back.
By switching turbo mode off, this has now given me accurate temperate readouts... Getting 24C on idle with the 212 EVO cooler, time to put some load in!
