    2500k Up

Currently got a 2500k and had it around 2 years I think now. I haven't been keeping up to date with CPU tech and was just wondering if its a good time to upgrade? anything big I should hold out for?

    Thanks

If you're overclocking it and your primary use is for gaming, I'd keep it for the time being. You'll probably be GPU limited for a while yet...

Even Haswell doesn't offer enough of a performance jump to justify the cost of upgrading. I'd keep it, unless you absolutely must have more threads.

    Re: 2500k Up

Agree with previous posters, let us know your motherboard and you could overclock your CPU after you upgraded your cooling (if necessary) and get a better GPU if you need it. But upgrading your CPU if definitely not worth it (and thus not necessary).

No, the 2500k still have a lot of juice in it.

Just try to overclock it and save up the cash for other components upgrades

What kind of cooler are you using? What settings are you using for vCore? Have you got the most up-to-date version of BIOS for your motherboard? All CPUs vary a bit as to how far you can overclock them.

Even at 4.3Ghz, your 2500K should be fine for most games for quite a while I would have thought.

I run this processor and have no problems. But I guess it depends on whether it can handle your applications

    Re: 2500k Up

I must agree with most of the responses on here, the 2500k CPU is a beast for it's time. It's one of those workhorse CPU's that just keep on going. I remember 'upgrading' from a 2500k to a 2600k i7 and if anything i felt it was slower!? Keep the 2500k for the time being.
