    Worth swapping my 3900x for a 5900x?

I'm thinking of swapping my 3900x for a 5900x, the resolution I use for gaming is 2160p and I only use my PC for gaming and watching youtube. My current graphics card is 2070s.

So what do people think, worth swapping? Also has anyone changed from a 3900x to 5900x and was it a noticeable difference in gaming?

    thanks

Re: Worth swapping my 3900x for a 5900x?

Hi, I would say that potentially GPU upgrade would go nicely in unison with the CPU upgrade, as upgrading to a 5900X would leave you rather bottlenecked with a 2070S (Still a very powerful card in modern standards).

On the other hand if you use the PC for more CPU heavy tasks, a CPU upgrade would go nicely but personally for gaming I would upgrade the GPU first and then the CPU later down the line as I'd deem a 3900X as being still very top tier for gaming.

I do also understand that sourcing a GPU may be rather difficult due to this current situation but I'd still suggest GPU before CPU regarding pure gaming performance in my opinion.

    Cheers

In some games with are single core and latency limited,it would be an upgrade in terms of minimums. However,at 4K you will be very GPU limited in more modern games such as CB2077.

If you can find a used 5900x, that could be a better option, however, not sure how much the extra grunt from the 5900x will actually give you if you're existing rig is setup properly and your RAM's optimised etc..

I have the 5900x but I do not think you need to upgrade yet. I would wait for the next generation maybe. I play CoD every night but don't really see a huge difference from my old 7700k. Don't get me wrong there is a difference but don't think the difference will be that big from your 3900

Re: Worth swapping my 3900x for a 5900x?

I went from a 3950x to a 5950x as i use my pc for work and its been an improvement there but i havent really seen a difference in gaming. I play at 1440p. Obviously not the same cpus but the 3950x and 3900x would be similar for gaming so for your use case i wouldnt bother. As others have said, a gpu upgrade would be more beneficial if you can find a 30 series card.

It's the minimums that would probably be the most noticed, I noted that when I upgraded from a 9700K to the 9900K. Noticed it far more upgrading my 2080 FE to the 3090 FE though, personally I'd say a GPU upgrade would be more beneficial in this scenario. The 3900X is still a great CPU.
